I searched high and low for these for my FA*300 F/4.5 with no luck so ended up using camo tape. Shame the FA*300 is out of stock, perhaps I have you to thank for that as you pointed out to them it's not a current model

I can't help you with the exact models you state, but I do have the K30 and an old canon 30D plus I do a lot of BIF's. I use an internal focus lens on the K30, a pentax FA*300 F4.5 and a HSM lens on the 30D, a sigma 100-300 F4.
Judging focus speed I'd say no difference that I can notice. However BIF's are not just about that, it's about the camera picking the right way to focus for a start, the Canon is better at that. It's about predictive af, the Canon is better at that. And it's about not loosing af when locked on. Perhaps a draw on that, perhaps Canon is better if you move away from just using center af point. I don't know if this helps....?

Hi Vic, I know the feeling, mud and backache but I'd have to get my chin on the ground to get my beard (when I have one) muddy! Have you tried Live view on the K-3? I use that a lot on my K-r and K30 for insect macros (I used to use a right angle finder on the older dslr and slr's that didn't have live view). I'm also too lazy these days to carry a tripod which others use for macro photography, but I do carry one of those extending walking poles and brace the camera against this using my left hand which holds the lens and stick. This helps greatly with stability (for me and the camera!). Hope you get as much joy as I do capturing the insect world.

I agree with everything David has said especially about dirty knees.... always a good indicator of an insect macro shooter....

Those are superb. I know what all are with the exception of number 3, is this some sort of festoon butterfly? Was it taken in the wild in Belgium?

I have used pentax or ricoh since the early 80's. I carried on with pentax when I went digital. However a few years ago I wanted to know if I was at fault or my Pentax for birds in flight, so I bought a Canon 30D and sigma 100-300 F/4 HSM to test. I found out it wasn't me that was the problem.... The 30D's continuous af was superb compared to my GX10/K100D and FA*300 F/4.5. However as good as the canon is I'm afraid I'm just too lazy to carry the large sigma, so I returned back to Pentax with the K-r and the K30 just so I could carry on using my FA*300 F/4.5. I now accept that I just can't get the hit rate I could with Canon, and that my 30D is far from modern tech, and am a lot happier now wandering with my lighter Pentax kit.
So I guess I have switched back, although as I never sold my pentax kit I also never left!

A Lovely set, especially the first 3 of the deer, they have a real 'aww cute' factor.
