My 2nd. attempt at Macro.

Not as good as Walts but I'm still learning. This was hand held with my K3 and Tamron 90mm Macro lens. I was in the garden when I saw this bright blue (thing) on a leaf and this is what I got,

Well done Vic, Macro is not easy, especially with live subjects! This one is pretty sharp, but the angle doesn't do it for me. I would try to get on a level with whatever you're shooting, rather than shooting down from above. From eye level everything become more personal! Unfortunately this often involves grovelling about on the ground, for which I'm famous in our household. I usually end up with dirty knees on my jeans and then I'm in trouble with the missus!

I agree with everything David has said especially about dirty knees.... always a good indicator of an insect macro shooter....

I hear what you're both saying. Thanks for the advice. BUT in this case I'd have got my chest and my beard muddy. I was on one knee trying to keep my balance and my back was killing me.

Good effort though. DOF looks quite shallow, which is surprising at f16.

Hi Vic, I know the feeling, mud and backache but I'd have to get my chin on the ground to get my beard (when I have one) muddy! Have you tried Live view on the K-3? I use that a lot on my K-r and K30 for insect macros (I used to use a right angle finder on the older dslr and slr's that didn't have live view). I'm also too lazy these days to carry a tripod which others use for macro photography, but I do carry one of those extending walking poles and brace the camera against this using my left hand which holds the lens and stick. This helps greatly with stability (for me and the camera!). Hope you get as much joy as I do capturing the insect world.

To all of you. I'm not bragging. (I hate it when old folk say "I am 75 you know") BUT I am 75 and the old bones creak a little getting down then up again. I do have a couple of monopods and a beanbag which I can use but on this occasion it was a sudden seeing of a blue (THING) that caught my attention so I just took the chance and took the shot.
I don't know how old you are Walt but have you got past the bum fluff stage yet??????????? CHEERS Vic.
