A very sad day indeed, but sadly not that unexpected.

I’ve only ever owned and used Pentax gear, so, going forward I guess it’s time to investigate which system to move over to (when my 300mm da* sdm finally dies, that will be the moment I’ll have to make a choice).

Arrived today in excellent condition

I never originally intended to go full frame, but I think I could be waiting a long time for a new version K3 with a flippy screen - so hopefully I'll find macro shots a bit easier with my new (to me) K1

I totally agree with the comment already made that it would be better for Ricoh to give K-3 and K-1 users a clear vision of what to expect going forward.

A lot of us already have a lot of money invested in K-Mount lenses and would much prefer to stick with Pentax long term (rather than transitioning to Canikony).

But I'm personally really struggling to decide if further investment in new K-Mount is the way to go, or do I wait until a future Pentax strategy is clear.....

Yes, the switch for selecting left, right or both sides of the ring is still working as it should.

It is also changing modes between Auto and Manual ok - as I checked that by setting the 2 sec shutter delay and with Auto I get a black exposureas it has obviously fired the pre-flash at max output and has nothinng left in the tank for the real exposure - whereas in manual it does correctly fire at the right time while the shutter is open for the real exposure, but regardless of the manual power setting (1/4, 1/2 or Full), it always just fires at full power.

It's so fustrating, because I always used it as a fill-in flash for macro work outside - and until now it worked perfectly in Auto mode.

That was my first hope too, that all the contacts just needed a good clean.

But I've gone to town with cleaning the contacts with as many ideas as I can think of and no success.

I can be confident that the camera is not the issue, as all my other flashes still work fine in Auto mode, but I get the same behaviour with my AF160FC ring flash on both my camera bodies.

I know that I'm probably clutching at straws, but having just tried to use my AF160FC ring flash, I found that it will no longer work in Auto mode (it fires the pre-flash - but no main flash) - and in manual mode, regardless of the setting (1/4, 1/2 or Full), it always just fires at full power.

Has anyone else experienced this ?

And if so, did you find any magic solution ?

I've really enjoyed a lot of the Photography Online content - so I was looking forward to them testing the Penyax K1, but I too was really shocked that they didn't regard it as anywhere near the standard of some other cameras in terms of capturing detail.

I've always had an eye on one day upgraing to Full Frame Pentax - so I was really disapointed in their findings - as I can't see any reason to doubt what they discovered....

But agreed, they should have just tested it without the pixel shift too.
