Well if you didn't find it slow in those conditions I doubt you will anywhere else.

Do you have the 50-150 on a Pentax mount then?
Yes.
In that case if you can bother to compare them IQ/AF speed wise and give a couple of thoughts that would be brilliant. I really liked my 50-150 but it was big and not extremely sharp wide open. Other than that it was an excellent lens for a very modest price.

I had a 50-135mm arrive today as I got it for a decent price and wanted to see if the AF speed was better on the K-5 compared to previously when I had one on the K10D. Also wanted to compare it against the 50-150mm Sigma I currently use .
Interested to hear what you have to say cause if there is one thing my Sigma is it is very fast to AF

The only downer with the 50-135 is the SDM IMO. OK, it's quiet, but it's far too slow, even on the K-5
Don't know if you can blame the SDM because the DA850-135 has quite a massive focus throw, around 240 degrees i believe, never measured it but you can manual focus the lens really well.
Is it really that slow? My D7000+50-150 was almost instantaneous

I don't and if I am to carry the weight I might as well have the flexibility of the zoom!

I used to own a 70mm limited until i lost it in the States, great lens for portraits but as I now have a DA*55mm which I love and a DA* 50mm to 135mm I am spoilt for choice.

To cut to the chase the DA* 50mm to 135mm is not the best lens to be doing a lot of walking around with, but it's focal range and quality are second to none, I think this lens is a real gem and one of Pentax's best zooms.

I guess you have to sacrifice either size or focal length or you could just buy both lenses if you have the money!

Personally If I had to choose one it would have to be the DA* 50mm to 135mm as its such a great lens.

I am getting both, it is just that I can't buy both at the same time, something to do with me moving houses and all The question is which I should get first and everything points in the direction of the 50-135... If SRS had one now I'd just drop by and buy it simple as but they dont so it gives me the luxury of time to ponder...

No, I don't want a superzoom and I do want a fairly fast aperture. The choice is 50-135 or 70mm

As far as I am concerned the 10-50 is covered by the 10-20 Sigma + 40mm I just need something longer if I was to compromise in size I'd just go for the 50-135. I absolutely love the Pentax limiteds thus my lust and maybe wishful thinking that the 70mm will be good enough of a tele

I disagree Smeggy, I find them quite warm

I personally feel the 50-135 is a bit big for a walkabout lens, and unless your going to spend a lot of cash on a cracking quality UV filter then you really need the lens hood in place, the front element of the 50-135 screams out "SCRATCH ME"
Having said that if you believe everything thats said about it then its one of the best zooms Pentax have ever produced.
Exactly what I am thinking : it is not a walkabout lens I don't believe in 2 kilos hanging off my shoulder as being walkabout. However flexibility + quality has me all but sold on it.

This is why I will buy both, there will be times that I will most definitely want something longer than 40 but I will not want to drag the 50-135 in which case a 70mm will be good, though I do wish that Pentax made something longer still like a 90 one or 105 one as pancakey as possible

BTW regarding the s/h price if I remember correctly someone said that the s/h gear is on a commission base so if the owner said wanted to make a specific amount adding the commission on top brought it to higher price than the new. It might have been when the new ones were more expensive and the price has not dropped to reflect that. Regardless it would have to be a fair bit of a discount from new to buy s/h given that I'd like the peace of mind of a 2yr warranty.
