The K10 screens are apparently readily interchangeable by the user. The 'Ist' camera screens were available from independant makers, notably 'Haoda' and 'Katz-eye' so it is highly likely that they will be, or already are, available for K10D. Both these screens offer a split image rangefinder and a microprism ring.

Carl Weese writing on 'The OnlinePhotographer' site about the K10 problems with auto focussing the 21mm......

http://theonlinephotographer.blogspot.com/

He seems surprised that auto-focus intermitently fails....??!!! Since AF has always been 'hit and miss' on ALL AF cameras, it's not too surprising that the K10D is thus affected. This is just more of the same old problem,.....by the time you have realised that the 'technology' has cocked it up you have missed that great, non repeatable, image.........

Us old timers will give a wry smile,....however did we manage with those clunky old manual lenses?????

Good job we did.....!!

At least the focus mode switch on K10 looks like it will be easy to turn off and tape over..........

I have also been looking at the Samsung manual for some time now,...I also picked up on the coy reference to the only apparent accessories for this camera in the phrase; "use accessories for Pentax camera"....!!?

This leads me to think that this camera is but a passing excercise for Samsung before they move on to their own dSLR models. I would still like to know what the exact relationship is between the GX-10 and the k10D as it seems an odd strategy to me which benefits the marketing attempts of neither company.

I think that, for my money at least, there is no advantage of buying the Samsung just to get the 18-55 gratis. if the price diferential was much greater that would be a different matter but for me this is going to be a serious purchase and I don't think the 'poor man's Sony' can quite hack it...

I think I'll go to a well established camera maker as always,....old habits die hard!

However, previous Samsung models have been marketed with 4 year waranty in the US....I'm still trying to find out if that applies here in the UK on the GX-10 as this could cause me a total rethink....

To be fair they now have the K10 listed on their website at £699,....However, it seem strange that BOTH branches had 'wrong' prices shown. Then again, this IS Jessops so it might just be the usual high level of product awareness and operational efficiency.....

I was in Cambridge this afternoon and finally got to see the K10 'in the plastic' for the first time as it is on display in both branches of Jessops. In the larger main shop the price with 18-55 is £849 and the price round the corner is £799 with the same lens.

For those who are yet to see the camera, be prepared for it's singular lack of any inspiring visible feature,...just the usual black plastic 'blobby' shape apparently styled rather than designed. Another wonderful example from the 'Ford mondeo School of Art and Design'.

Hopefully it performs a lot better than it looks.......

Is this the sort of situation that the inventors of SR/anti-shake technology were thinking of......?????

Don't scream outloud.....!!

Hythloday,...thanks for the interesting link.

John Riley,.....How were you able to find out that they are both made in the pentax factory please? Did you read this on the web somewhere?....if so, can I have a link/pointer please?

I'm not too concerned with any resale value as these cameras become obsolete too quickly to really worry.

A 4 year warranty is really worth having because it more or less covers the life of the camera body,.....after 4 years we may hopefully see 'real' digital cameras rather than the same old SLR's with sensor bunged in...

The k10 and the Samsung GX10 are apparently clones.....

I have been trying to research this relationship on the web but have only really found the users manual for the GX10 as no reviews or tests seem to yet exist. Does anyone know if or where there is more info? Some of the stuff I would like to know are;

Do these cameras use the same sensor made in the same factory?

Is the same firmware/software used?

Are there any test images/reviews of GX10, preferably compared to k10?

Where is a good place to go to actually see GX10 in UK?

Street price for GX10 is a bit less than K10 but not enough to warrant a purchase from "the poor mans Sony",....However, the earlier Samsung/Pentax clones were sold in the US with a 4 year warranty.....Does this exist with GX10 in the UK ??

GX10 seems to be only available with the 18-55mm which is branded as a Schneider Creuznach lens....Am I right to assume that this has no chance of worthwhile resale on ebay etc ?

For those interested in the k10D, here is a new 'hands-on' buy one of the best industry pundits;

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/pentax-10D.shtml

For those who don't know, 'L-L' is a highly regarded site with emphasis on digital. There is also a forum which is very likely to discuss the K10D in depth which will be quite interesting as some of the visitors are very experienced photograhers.

I just HAVE to respond to this!

".........Your choice of only MF primes tells me you have plenty of time to compose your shots... so pets are out of the question!......"

I know it comes as a nasty surprise but there was great action photography of very fast subjects before 'progress' gave us auto-focus....some of us were producing very successful pix of pets and children and sports not to mention wars and other fast and instant movement without the 'benefit' of AF.......I wonder how on earth we managed to do it!!!!

Some of us still are....!?!!

Let's get something straight!.....the only real value of auto-focus is to camera and lens makers. It's MUCH cheaper to make an auto focussing lens/camera using electronic modules than it is to properly engineer a decent helical focussing mount.....It's as simple as that!
