Both cameras are made in the Pentax factory, as are the lenses. How similar or otherwise they are is a moot point, but I suspect very similar in most respects.
The Pentax will no doubt have a much better resale value on eBay or elsewhere.

Hythloday,...thanks for the interesting link.
John Riley,.....How were you able to find out that they are both made in the pentax factory please? Did you read this on the web somewhere?....if so, can I have a link/pointer please?
I'm not too concerned with any resale value as these cameras become obsolete too quickly to really worry.
A 4 year warranty is really worth having because it more or less covers the life of the camera body,.....after 4 years we may hopefully see 'real' digital cameras rather than the same old SLR's with sensor bunged in...

The Ammonyte runs away and hides under a rock and waits for the explosion!

There's no specific link I can give you regarding source of information, as all sorts of info come my way through all sorts of contacts...but it is well established that the Samsung cameras/lenses are made by Pentax. Although there may well be differences in some minor details, they are indeed minor details.
Have a look at the products and you will be in no doubt.

When I was collecting my K10D from Chris the Nikon rep happened to be there, and he kept referring to Pentax as "Samsung"! It could be part of a long-term strategy to build up the samsung brand and associate the qualities of Pentax cameras with Samsung cameras with (possibly) a view to splitting the market so that Pentax gets used for Serious and pro-level cameras (645D and the mythical K1D) and Samsung gets it's badge on the pro-sumer and lower cameras. I'd guess this would be 5 years or so down the road though.

5 years down the road, they are more likely to be known as Hoya. When I was collecting my K10D from Chris the Nikon rep happened to be there, and he kept referring to Pentax as "Samsung"! Can't decide whether that's good or bad...

That's the monkier for the whole organisation, I doubt they'd change the Pentax brand, and Hoya have no mean optical reuptation themselves. This kind of tie-up is going on all the time in business, and might even provide Pentax with the money to produce the K1D!
I mean we in the UK aren't worried that a spanish company is going to buy up all our airports, are we?

am I mistake, or didn't there used to be an asahi pentax, and a brief time where imorts were rebadged as honeywells in the west?
I could be confused, but I'm not worried.
longas the lenses fit, and the shutter clicks....

Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

The Asahi Optical Company started off with the Asahiflex in the 1950s, introduced the Pentax when a fixed pentaprism was added to the cameras in the late 1950s.
The cameras were called Asahi Pentax except in the USA where they were Honeywell Pentax, named after the distributer there. Camera models were identical, apart from a flash sensor added to some of the USA variants.
In the late 1970s or early 1980s the Asahi name was dropped and the camera became just Pentax.
That's a very brief history and if you want all the details there are several suitable books that cover it!

I have been trying to research this relationship on the web but have only really found the users manual for the GX10 as no reviews or tests seem to yet exist. Does anyone know if or where there is more info? Some of the stuff I would like to know are;
Do these cameras use the same sensor made in the same factory?
Is the same firmware/software used?
Are there any test images/reviews of GX10, preferably compared to k10?
Where is a good place to go to actually see GX10 in UK?
Street price for GX10 is a bit less than K10 but not enough to warrant a purchase from "the poor mans Sony",....However, the earlier Samsung/Pentax clones were sold in the US with a 4 year warranty.....Does this exist with GX10 in the UK ??
GX10 seems to be only available with the 18-55mm which is branded as a Schneider Creuznach lens....Am I right to assume that this has no chance of worthwhile resale on ebay etc ?
