You could try justifying it on the basis that if you only have a few shots to transfer at a time, you're causing less wear and tear on the card door.
If you left it open for any time there'd be the risk of accidentally snapping it off, too.
So I reckon, once you factor in the cost of a trip to the service department, you're actually saving money...
While on the subject of doors I don't like the rubber door which covers the remote connection have been using the 2 second timer instead but must remember to reset it to "normal" when I go to hand-held I've cursed myself a few times: compose, click, beep beep beep, kerchunk, delete blurred photo

Then the man says: It's a picture of my wife. When she looks good to me I'm going home.
That is the power of beer, for an example, see below:

...some stuff from the DIY shop. Put it all in the Kangoo, closed the tailgate on it, and found out it was too long - result one burst windscreen, from the inside out.
That's what I love about DIY store car parks. Watching the customers trying to fit their purchases into the car. It's almost as much fun as standing on a cliff top in a gale watching the "Sunday Sailors" having all sorts of problems

Just to give you a better idea of what your paying for
here's one and the reader taken apart link
Looks like the operating system is run on the Atheros chip
which has an integrated RISC processor with 512KB of flash
memory. There's also the equivalent of a USB WiFi dongle
in there
There's also a free Imagewatcher program on that site,
which I haven't used and it's a few years old.
You can buy the 4GB version on ebay for £36.48 Post Free
link
The 8GB version isn't needed because the shots are
transferred to the PC as they are taken.
The Eye-Fi was meant for Amateur use.... they haven't
brought out a Compact Flash version which most Pro
cameras use.
For Pro use people like Canon offer alternatives at
$1,200 link

The software alone is worth £50 it integrates well with the Eye-Fi website, Flickr etc. and will keep itself updated and also update the firmware on the card. It also handles GEO tagging.
The hardware supplied includes an SDHC card into which they have built a computer, plus a special USB reader.
They have also tested the card with just about every camera ever made
You remind me of the people who used to buy expensive cameras and then complain about D&P costs
How are things at the Flat Earth Society anyway?
If I was a Pro Photographer, Yes, I've have all the latest greatest gear I would ever need, paid for by the clients of course.
As a budding beginner on a very tight budget (pensioner aged 6with other needs such as food etc., it is difficult to justify £50 on such a gadget. It's as easy to swap out SDHC cards to download the current photographs. There are a few lenses I'd love too but will never own outside of a lottery win.
