Why not just get an electric winch and use a single block if it is something you use frequently, 30-40lbs doesnt sound too much of a load to haul up?

I think if you get left hand lay rope the problen isn't so bad, I seem to recall it was used for lifeboat falls. With a 3 fold purchase there is a way to reeve the rope so it minimises the twist but it is the nature of rope to twist itself into a "thicker" rope. If its not too high a lift can you not have a tag line attached to the hook for pulling the hook down, I'm assuming you are working single handed and have to load the hook, if you have a helper they can pull down on the tag line. All this is going back to my pre-sea training int early 60's. If you know any rigger's they could probably advise.

and that's with a 105mm lens

Far too big by the looks of it!

Why do Pentax users always want everything brought out for
other systems?
Because it's there

I thought asiatic women tended to be on the tiny to extra small size

If I was returning to east anglia for a visit I'd time it for the cheap caravan holidays in the Sun. We've had a few at various camps around the country, Seton Sands being a favourite.
Our usual price in the van on a campsite is £10-15 per night including electric and quite often showers. That means we can afford a b&b every now and again

Dave
I like those "caravans" with all mod cons

Unfortunately his work doesn't come across all that well in the book I aquired at a jumble sale "Ansel Adams Letters and Images 1916 - 1984" I would very much like to see the same photographs in real life as I think they would be very impressive.
