Just checked on the photographers Ephemeris for Whitby, looks like sunrise between the pilers is out but sunrise behind the abbey through the whale bone arch is in Sun up at 8:00.

Sounds like it is going to be an expensive round

The harbour can be OK first thing in the morning, however getting out again can be fun with all the crowds. I usually go for the west cliff or the pavilion.

Maybe you are coming at this from the wrong angle. If your intention is to market and sell your images, Flickr is probably not the place to do this being built on a social networking model. One thing you will not get away from, if images can be displayed then they can be captured one way or another, copyright & meta information can be stripped easily from a files. It might be worth looking at web site platforms that have better control measures in place, and are geared towards selling images. Maybe some members who have had some success in this area could suggest one or two.

I always assume that at some point someone will pinch my pictures. so I intentionally only upload a 800px 72 dpi version and hope the enjoy the postcard sized print.
