I stumbled across SRS after being dissapointed with jessops and Jacobs and decided to buy my K20d online. First class service. I am about ready to order another lens and some other stuff and SRS will be where I place the order. I am new to this forum and not (yet)influenced by it.

Only reason not to is that you'll probably need 4Gb cards with it! (I bought 3 Sandisk Extreme III cards from Picstop!)
Im using bog standard 2Gb cards and shooting in RAW and Im getting plenty of shots per card (cannot remember exact number). I may get 4Gb when I next order some but i knd of prefer more small cards anyway.

Terje, nice photo, thanks for the confidence boost.

Don, lots of ideas to work on there, I'll definitely try the mirrors and lighting the shadows and diffusing the flashes.

Never really used flash except on Bulb when underground so Im not really sure how you set up flashes tbh.

Thanks guys

IS
Thanks, I'll try without flash unless I need a litle fill in somewhere. Hadn't considered hot spots (not sure why but i hadn't).So I'll try many options of composition and take my laptop to see how well its going.
I always shoot in RAW anyway, so thats no problem.
Cheers for the tips.

Hi

I have a shoot to do soon in a blacksmiths workshop, obviously with anvil and forge revved up etc. The natural lighting isnt that great, though i can open a couple of large doors to help.

I have some old(ish) non dedicated flashes, Vivitar 285 etc and intend to try and use three or four angle poise lamps. Will this be enough? I have never done this sort of photography before, as its my brother there is no pressure really but i could do with some advice on how to approach this without spending a fortune on lighting.

Thanks

Welcome Steve.
So does that mean you are unable to enter this week's competition? it's about storms, you should be well placed to capture some bad boys out there
trouble is getting a permit to use a camera is not so easy, going to have to wait for another contract for that one.

Apparently Derby is the furthest point in the UK from any coastline and you work offshore
Sure do, 5 miles from my house is the furthest point, my last job was a yacht instructor lol and I want to do some seascape pictures when I next get home too.

Just wandered in here yesterday and decided to join. Recently started taking my photography seriously and bought a new K20d with 16-50mm from SRS. So far loving it, though a lot to learn.
I live in Derby (well someone has to) and work offshore (oil rigs) which is where i am right now so can't upload anything to my gallery just yet. That will have to wait until i get home.

Anyway, Hello Everybody
