Hello Owen, I'm presuming you haven't sourced what you are looking for yet, so let me run this by you for consideration. I have a vivitar 200mm f3.5 prime, which as it is an older full frame lens, can be used on both 35mm film cameras and pentax digital. On the latter with a crop value of 1.5 you will get an effective focal length of 300mm. It comes with a dedicated vivitar 2x teleconverter giving a focal length of 400mm on film or 600mm on digital, making it a very flexible option. It also features a built in rectractable hood and the all important tripod mount. It's a tx/m42 mount so you will need an m42 to pk adapter as well. It is in very good condition, clean optics, no fungus, snappy aperture and smooth focus ring, although the ribbed focus ring has a few usage marks on it. Your budget will buy it including postage costs.
A picture of one like it can be found here:- link

Other than this I have a pristine SMC Pentax A* 300mm which I have owned from new and has seen very little use, which I will be putting on ebay soon, but I do want considerably-ably more than your budget.

Best wishes and good look with your search.
If you are going to sell it at least give those on this forum a chance at it!

I think the clue is in the quote in the first post "just 1,600 units worldwide"

I've just noticed you have the 5 mkII, how much more accurate is it AF'ing in the dark?

Another vote for LR4 from me too. I am lost without it.

OP Don't sell it, you will so regret it if you do. It is an astounding lens with incredible image quality.
Wait, wait, wait for the funds and don't sell.
Incidently how much are you looking to spend on a DSLR because the current K-30 is very good value only £369 and if you take into account the £50 cashback from Pentax it's only £319 at SRS Microsystems (there is a link on the right) and it is a very, very good camera.

They are looking good particularly considering they are at f2.8! I tend to use TAV mode and let the camera decide the ISO from the aperture and shutter speed I choose. I have the K-7 and get a lot of very grainy shots, but I'm a firm believer that you're better off with a sharp grainy shot than a blurred one. I'm normally at 1/800+ and f5.6+ to ensure that the front of the front kart/car is in focus. I still get a lot of missed focus though. Try shooting early as the cars approach with the camera set to continuous AF and hi speed shooting and blast off a rake of shots then later pick the ones you want to keep.
I notice you have a K-5, and if that is the case, with its superior ISO capabilities I would definitely use TAV and maybe restrict the ISO in the menu to 6400.

I think I am guilty of a couple of shots like this.
This was very early in my DSLR days (I've never done SLR) the camera was less the 2 months old and I hadn't worked out how to shoot in low light and IIRC I was using P mode on the dial. It's a shot of my son racing a kart in very poor floodlit conditions at the local track. I tried to find him in the gloom and then follow and made a complete mess of it, but I liked the effect that came out of the camera.

SRS have two Pentax IR remote release devices, one is even water resistant.
