To the OP, the image quality is impressive, but do you feel the zoom range is adequate?

To the broader audience, has anyone given thought to the Lumix DMC-LX7 vs the MX-1?

I'm trying to decide between a MX-1, lumix LX7 and a micro 4/3....am leaning towards a micro 4/3 but the image quality here is making it tougher to decide. I am a little troubled by its lack of a hot shoe for a flash.

Truly interesting conversation on cleaning fluids, but as far as anyone having experimented with the cheaper swabs, there seems to be two instances mentioned: one which worked out well and another a clear disaster.

Using the LCD in bright sunlight is very difficult (not sure how much of a problem that is in the UK :lol, so I added a Delkin LCD shade which helps noticeably. And, further, focus peaking colors like the competition would be a big usability plus (but I started another thread about that).

I've only used the expensive kind as I am very reluctant to experiment on any of my cameras. However, I see these inexpensive ones all the time on eBay and was wondering if anyone here had actually given them a try and what the results were.

For example, a particularly inexpensive one:

(I hope this didn't cause too many gasps here :lol

There are others too, some a bit pricier. For example:

As I've said, I'm reluctant to experiment. But I am curious to see if any one else has.

Thanks

Hi jeeess1967 - thanks for the response! Were these the cheap ones from China that you get on eBay? And, we're they the type were the swab is already wet with cleaning solution and individually packed to keep wet? Or were they dry and then you applied solution?

Thanks

Steve

I am wondering if anyone on the forum here has experience with the cheap sensor swabs that are sold on eBay. I know arguments against using them, but I am interested in hearing from those who actually have given them a try and what the real world results were. Did they get the sensor clean? Or, did they make matters worse? If worse, what did you notice?
Thanks

@johnriley - My apologies about the double post. I'm wondering if it would make more sense for this topic to be placed in the "Pentax Digital Camera Discussion" since it spans both DSLR and mirrorless cameras.

Thanks

Steve

Unless Ricoh was blowing smoke with their response, it seems like they may take these requests into consideration. But, I think volume is the key. So, I hope those who realize the potential value of this enhancement, which I don't believe is a big one in terms of development, will take a moment or two and contact Richon Pentax to pass on the request.

Thanks

I put this in another forum, but I believe it makes more sense here:

I sent an email to Ricoh Imaging yesterday suggesting that they do firmware updates to include user selectable colors for focus peaking. I would like to suggest that others who agree it would be of value do the same. If enough voices speak up it might work.

Here's the URL for US users. I selected to submit via web form:

Here is the response I got from them.

Dear Steven,

Thank you for contacting PENTAX.

Also, thank you for your suggestions and information regarding options for focus peaking colors. Product engineering and design decisions themselves come out of our parent company, RICOH Corporation, in Japan. RICOH Corporation directs how all RICOH products are developed, and any strategic alliances of a global nature are formed at that level.
I will be happy to forward your correspondence to our parent company and RICOH subsidiaries, in a report designed for concerns such as these. RICOH always appreciates hearing from the consumer public regarding the use of RICOH products, or regarding suggestions for new products or improvements in any area. We appreciate you taking your time to express your thoughts.

If you are in need of further assistance, please respond to this email or call our technical support center at 800-877-0155.

Sincerely,

Please consider a firmware update for all pentax cameras with focus peaking. (I also have a k30). The LCDs can be hard to see under bright conditions and the competition with focus peaking accommodates for this by allowing the user to select from a number of colors for outlining. The functionality is excellent but hampered by always having white which is sometimes barely usable where other colors would be much easier to discern. A firmware update like this would make these Pentaxes so much more enjoyable and easier to use. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Steven Brener
