Pentax is on it’s 3rd iteration of pixel shift, Sony is on its first, where do you think their pixel shift capability will be by the time they have their 3rd iteration ?

The aim of this topic is all about discussing the relative rate of innovation & time to market between Pentax & Sony, or any other camera manufacturer for that matter. It’s not about down playing The K1’s capabilities, rather the comparison between it and the a7iii highlights the rate at which the two companies innovate & bring new products to market.

Ive not looked at the Sony offering. But its my guess is that it has fast auto focus and takes a decent video.
With regards video capability it captures 6K video, with pixel binning to reduce it down to super quality 4K video, so in that regard it’s miles ahead of any Pentax camera
If its the camera choosing the focus point your photos have the potential not be focussed to one's satisfaction, it isn't psychic!.
No the camera isn't psychic but, it does have a touchscreen which you can select the desired subject to focus on in Live View and when looking through the EVF you can select the appropriate AF point using a little joystick.

So I presume the OP thinks Sony are catching up?
I don't think Sony are catching up with Pentax, they've overtaken every other full frame camera manufacturer out there!
Just look at the capabilities of the various a7 variants & the a9

On the camera company perspective, Sony is a massive consumer electronics company but, they did start their camera exploits by buying Minolta, whereas Pentax is now owned by Ricoh, predominantly a photcopier company!

What are Sony offering ?
Well for 'one thing' or should I say 693 things! A massive array of 693 focus points covering 98% of the field of view, vs 33 in the Pentax.
Very good & rapid AF performance + eye detect AF which by all YouTube reviewers seems pretty amazing.

For a reasonable comparison check out http://cameradecision.com/compare/Sony-Alpha-A7-III-vs-Pentax-K-1-Mark-II

I'm not saying the K1 is anything other than a good camera, what I'm getting at is the slower rate of improvement Ricoh are achieving compared to their competition, both cameras being priced within a couple of hundred pounds of each other.

Has anybody thought about how little the Pentax K1 ii update is offering beyond the original K1 capabilities? In comparison just look what Sony are offering on the a7 III update compared to the mk2 version. In all things business & technology if you don't make progress at the same rate as your competitors you are effectively going backwards!
We Pentaxians are being left behind, discuss!

Hi Chris, are there any Pentax lenses deals this coming Easter weekend, which will actually be available by the weekend, all the previous identified codes don’t work!

An alternative wide angle lens for huge Landscapes is the Sigma 8-16mm. I’’ve used this on my K3 with some good results. It’s the widest orthogonal ( on fish eye) perspective lens you can get for APS C sensor cameras. It is also great for using close to your subjects to distort reality & warp space!
You can be very creative with this lens.
