I've a bit of a dumb question about using the old Pentax manual focus lenses on the *ist DS - I was thinking about getting one of the large aperture 50mm ones off ebay to try as a portrait lens.
The only thing is, my eyesight is a bit duff. I was wondering if the focus indicator will still fire ?
Was about to do a buy-it-now but stopped myself (no pun intended...) just in time.
cheers,
smithy.

Uncompressed DNGs are just too big.
I'll have a look at DCRAW and see what it's like

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas if you have it, and got some nice gear!
I was just wondering if there's a PEF to DNG converter that lets you keep the same datestamp on the file externally - I just noticed that the Adobe one doesn't, which isn't helpful when you're trying to work out at-a-glance where your holiday snaps were taken. The orig. date is accessible from the Browse function of Photoshop but I'd like to see it in Explorer.
thanks,

If you have just had a particular file open in Photoshop you may get these Windoze errors when you try to rename/delete/change it in some way in Explorer, as Photoshop seems to "hang on" to files for a while after you've closed them, making them seem to the operating system as though they're open when they're not. ( Of course I'm trying to replicate this just now - which has annoyed me too in the past - and it's behaving perfectly...grr.
Anyway, there's a free app called Process Explorer by Sysinternals.com which you can use to find and close apps/file handles that you know shouldn't be open.
To rotate multiple files at once in the PS browser use the same file select methods as in Windows Explorer (ie Ctrl-click for discontinuous selection, Shift-click for continuous selection) then right click for the menu.

Thanks Steve, you've saved me a few quid! (Now where can I get Brain Plugin DOF Calculator v1.0 ?) Sadly no Micro Nikkor here, just 28mm and 50mm.
Hand drawings most realistic *bows*

I'm hardly a Nikon user in any true sense as I've only put about 6 rolls of film through the FT - I'm mainly attached to those lenses, the focusing rings are soo sexy-smooth ..... shoot me......

Of course I was half hoping that the reply would be negative and I could stop ebay gazing
Now I've got to find that post about the relative merits of the 1.2, 1.4 and 1.7, it's in here somewhere.
thanks again,
