Anyone else had this thought?

I've been seeing an ad on television for some hand-held electronic gizmo that is supposed to exercise your brain and stave off dementia etc.

Cameras, instruction manuals, light meters, and flash units are hand-held gizmos that require far more mental gymnastics than that piece of junk they're trying to sell me.

Plus I wind up with pictures. Gee, something actually creative.......

Next time somebody asks me why I need all this gear instead of just using the digital camera in my phone, I'll simply say I'm slowing the on-set of senility, and recording the trip.

Meanwhile, do a crossword puzzle, read a book, write a letter, have an intelligent conversation - (without text messaging - IMHO!)

Geeezzeeee......

Now, where'd I put that three-legged thing, you know, the whatchamacallit, the ....

unfortunately, like physical activity, many people will not deliberately exercise the mind unless it's in the form of a 'game'.

Actually thinking for oneself has gone out of fashion, being replaced by mind numbing TV, drinking oneself into a stupor and eating until sick.

The western world is diseased. I've just come back from a walk with the dog and the state of the forestry is terrible, a mound of 20+ tyres dumped in the middle of nowhere, they drove past several recyling centres to get to the forest.
Please call me aj,

I'm not a three-legged thing! More like four, these days.

But I do take your point. And of course, far more mentally challenging than a camera or even a video recorder is the instruction manual, especially one written in China.

I'd find it easier to translate a manul from the original Mandarin into English than to try to transcribe the Chinglish one into English.

Perhaps there's a retirement job for us in some new Chinese industrial city.

Scottish Gaelic, to be precise. You win the bottle of Bowmore (Vic C pays!).

The other two are Polish and Manx for the same thing.

Chinese New Year (gōngxǐ fācái) is not until 7 February.
