At that sort of price you might as well have the 18-55mm. It is a little soft wide open, but sharp enough closed down a couple of stops. It also focuses reasonably closely. All in all a very respectable and useful lens.
I agree john, the (kit) lens is a good little lens, just a lot of snobbery with the word 'kit' methinks.

I am assuming of course that the new camera will have an APS-C sized sensor. If not, I and several others here have perhaps wasted a lot of money on DA lenses.

This is what was concerning me in particular! Is it worth spending money on DA lenses to find that they may only have a short shelf life. I'm also concerned that if Pentax become absorbed by the Samsung organisation that we will loose the loyalty to the consumer which we have enjoyed over the years.

For all those pentax gear freaks, Outdoor Photography Mag has a news article about a new DSLR with 10 Mpixel and a Digital 645 format, 18Mpixel.

I wonder what size the CCD for the DSLR will be?

Peter,

Having the same dilemna as you, it would be interesting to see some direct comparisons between both of the lenses for general landscape and architectural shots.

Has anyone done this?

Definitely a Fulmar, there's no such thing as a Seagull! they're all Gulls' Apart from a certain team that was recently relegated from the championship.

Don't get caught calling a fulmar a gull 'cause they eat awful smelling fish, are quite adept at throwing up and are very quite accurate with their aim.

Nice Photo.

Nice to see that you got the 'bucks' to capture the 'doe' and the lens!

Good photo, similar creatures only show themselves in the hours of darkness (generally) in the UK, in the wild of course.

Ted,

All sounds so familiar. Being a Sussex man and not being 'druv' your words ring true for my home county. However things are starting to improve slowly but the loss of agriculture and the demands to develop land for housing will probably be a disbenefit.

Maybe we have more in common than you think!

Welcome, from another newbie.

How can anywhere in California be called Yuck? and you think we have a sense of humour!
