Last weekend my significant other and I were window shopping. We got a chance to checkout both the sigma 10-20mm and the pentax fisheyezoom.
She's quite smitten with the pentax fisheye on our ist ds2...
now there's a deal on the table...I gotta sell two more weddings, and we'll get it.

Very impressive, lucky man. I'm considering splashing out on the 12-24mm DA, I'm not sure I would use the 10-17mm much.

Nice to see that you got the 'bucks' to capture the 'doe' and the lens!

Good photo, similar creatures only show themselves in the hours of darkness (generally) in the UK, in the wild of course.

I really enjoy photography, and this forum is great outlet for me, but truthfully, I'd have nothing if it weren't for my soon to be wife Gerri.
I have learning disabilities and can't balance a checkbook if my life depended on it. You have no idea how long it takes me to write these posts. lol
I had nothing when we met, and my ex had run my photography business into the ground (she did the books) and sold and or destroyed all my stuff after the seperation.
Gerri was working with uatistic children and I have an autistic boy. she was running a photography business, right out of college, and I started out just helping her out, with advice, but I get to play with the equipment. One of my problems in life is that I obsess over gadgets and facts, and forget to maintain relationships with people. so I guess what I'm saying is evrything is really hers, until we can get my divorce finalized and get married.

I am astounded at the clarity and colour richness of your pics, excellent. I think I'm going to go for the 12-24mm lens though.

Have you done any 'fiddling' with the colours or is that how they came off of the camera?

Looks to me like these are garter snakes emerging from their winter quarters . . . and looking to mate.

Lucky find, or is it a well known spot?. We only have 2 snakes in UK, common grass snake and the adder. The adder is venomous and a bite is very painful but seldom fatal to a fit and well person. Grass snakes will bite too if backed into a corner but they are not venomous.

BTW: I couldn't see the thumbnails on your snake page, pictures came up OK.

Practical Photography reviewed ultrawide digital zooms in their May edition and gave the Pentax 10-17 both Best Buy and Best on Test!

Let's not forget the Smooth Snake - our most endangered native species which needs all the help it can get!

Seeing Don's photo reminds me of the time my brother and I were in a pet shop, looking at Garter Snakes, when one which was being held by the shop assistant suddenly lunged out and bit my brothers finger. Took a minute or so to get the blighter off - needless to say, my brother didn't get one

Oops, I forgot that one, probably because I've never seen one.

My sons kept garter snakes when they were younger. We had a couple of bites too but nothing to break the skin. Fasinating to watch the skin shedding process.

It is important to ensure your anti-tetanus shots are up to date before handling wild animals though. Even a non-venomous bite that draws blood can turn nasty in a very short space of time. Wild creatures have some truly horrible germs in their mouths.
