To me, the prime difference between the DL and the DL2, is that the DL2 has a much better and faster 5-point focusing system. There are other differences such as more scene modes, but theses are really minor

You need a set of grade filters for the enlarger, great for adding punch when used right. Something to look into if your looking into developing yourself

There's also a green and green-yellow in the black and white filter line-up.

I think the orange is the one for hidding freckles if your interested

Anyway, when it comes to outdoors, I use some or all the B&W filters one after the other in a series of shots. That way I can choose the best filter for that pix. But unless your doing your own developement, it can be costly so stick with the red.

BTW I agree that the red is not much cop for portraits

I eagerly await an answer to that question too but alas... silence. I am guessing the last post by ali is his reason for the secrecy. Maybe Simonsteph did not want to get into a battle over prices and value, feature comparisons, and general Nikon xenophobia because he knows he is heavily outnumbered here on this Pentax forum.
You are correct and "ali studio one" previous reply proves that fact, even though he doesn't know the make and model of my new toy.

Knowing our limitations is just as important as knowing our abilities. Do you not think? If our limitation is our equipment, then we change it. (Or upgrade) If our limitation is ourselves, we learn. If we don't learn, we're screwed.

I reckon he bought a Nikon D50 'cause it was cheap and is now too embarrassed to tell us...
Wrong!! I thought the fact that i've got a 10.2mp camera would give you a clue that it is not a D50.

Simonsteph,

I still don't know why you posted here. You have said nothing remotely new, relevant or interesting to members of a Pentax forum......Basically, you are a troll, and I invite you to go off and infest the forums of whichever make you have chosen. It's somebody else's turn to be bored.
What a nasty Man!! Anyway, I still own a Pentax. I still use a Pentax. So why shouldn't I still post? Is it because you don't like my opinion and I should be oppressed?

Are you sure about that?

Thanks to all that replied with sense especially MattMatic, who even supplied some techno stuff. That senor stuff is quite interesting.

I just hope that Pentax doesn't leave the photograph market. Their cameras have been unique and well constructed. My choice of camera hasn't been easy, I had to be careful with the choice of lens because as stated earier, not by me, not all lenses work with my camera. I already knew that.

I'm off to shot some B&W, with film of course. I've suddenly went off digital for some reason, thanx MattMatic

Matt is quite correct. The Nikon D70, D100 and D50 all have 6.1Mp, and use the same sensor as the *ist D, DS(2), DL(2). It's the (rather pricey) Nikon D200 that has 10.2 Mp, and presumably the same sensor as the eagerly awaited 10.2 Mp Pentax DSLR will have.
Indeed the D100 does have 6mp and not the 10.2 as I claimed, so my mistake there. Do you not think it's a shame that Pentax users have to wait until October for a 10.2mp? You must have to admit that Pentax have fallen behind somewhat.

Quote:
It's a fact, though, that a number of stock agencies now say that they require pictures from an 8Mp SLR, so if you want to work for them your choice is made for you.
The money is good but the higher work is done with people that own D2x and EOS-1DS.

Quote:
As has been mentioned above, raw megapixel count is a rather crude measure of image quality, particularly given the different technology used in different sensors, but even if it was a perfect yardstick there would still be very little difference in quality between a 6Mp and an 8Mp image. For the same print resolution, the 8Mp image would only be 15% wider/taller.
I guess what agencies are after is peak quality, and they know they can get it

That is silly, and you may notice that's not what I said, nor implied. I told you what I meant... so perhaps you should re-read it
Perhaps clarifying you position would help. Are you referring to file compression? Cos that WILL affect quality.

Quote:
It's not just Canon. The only odd one out is the Sigma with the Foveon sensor. Maybe you should have a read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demosaicing
Thanx for that, I'll read that in more detail when I get time. I trust it will support your claim about the number of ACTUAL pixels within the TOTR canon.

Quote:
Like I said, Pentax 6Mp have 6.1 million photosites - EXACTLY the same as the Nikon D100, D70 etc. (Because it's the same Sony-made CCD sensor.) So, like all the rest, they have 1/2 green, 1/4 red, 1/4 blue.
D100 has 10.2mp not 6.1

Quote:
It's all horses-for-courses. If you're happy with your current DSLR - fine. But as you see there are plenty of pros, semi-pros, and amateurs using 6.1Mp Pentax (and other makes) and getting on with it
Correct, I'll support that

Anyway argument is the wrong word.. debate is a far better definition.

Either way, I wish you well in your career.. with whichever camera you use.
Yes debate is the correct word and it has been interesting. Thanx for your support in my career. Cheers!

If the poster Simon says he feels discriminated against by the industry because agencys reject his equipment then let him go buy more equipment
Can't remember saying that i was feeling discriminated. However, from the recent Zzzz seminar, I'll leave you this story.

Two pictures were presented in a seminar, one of a Vauxhall and the other of a Audi. The members were asked which car did they prefer. The answer was Audi.
The members were told of the performance of both cars, which were the same and then asked again which did they prefer. Audi was still the answer.
The members were then told of the specs, which again was the same. The members still preferred the Audi.
The members were then told of the price, which the Audi cost £8000 more. However, the members still preferred the Audi.
Do you know the moral of the story?

You're right, we don't miss what we haven't had, but then again, I don't yearn for something I don't need either. I would expect that all who enter here did their homework before spending out their hard earned money. I personally think you are perhaps one of many who has believed the cow poo that is often spouted in camera shops.
Didn't I say that Pentax DSLRs did not meet my requirements. Didn't I say that I had trouble getting the D and DS from general Sale. However, I got some stupid replies (not from you personally) like getting a Pentax from Germany. Sorry! No camera no sale. That's the second time I've stated that

pentax only have one group of people in mind when thay design cameras and lenses THE OWNERS OF THEIR SYSTEM US not the board of directors and investors unlike canon nikon and minolta
perhaps that's why Pentax has fallen behind with the times. BTW Minolta has pulled out of the DSLR market. Will Pentax be next? Hope not!!

You can only do this with a 6mp camera by creating pixels that weren't orginally there
As you would have to with an 8mp sensor. That works out at 16,920,000 pixels, more than twice that of the 8mp sensor. So your argument would be that you cannot possibly get a decent print above A4 (at 300dpi) even with an 8mp sensor, because if you did, you'd be adding information not there at the original shot.
Why did you mention the 8mp senor? Only thing I said about the 8mp senor is that is the minimum standard required from agencies nowadays. That standard was not set my me.
That argument is quite different from the fact that with your camera, you need to create pixels that weren't orginally there to have a A3 300dpi pix.
No amount of argument will change that and don't merge two arguments

Quote:
Well the test would be, can you sell your images successfully into the market with the equipment you have. If you can, there isn't a problem...
That is spot on!! Selling pix to mags etc don't normal go above 10x8 in anyway, so for a 300dpi image, a 6mp camera will do. Try telling that to agencies.

Quote:
It seems to me that the modern thing is to try and find a camera that takes away all the skills you should learn in photography
Common trend nowadays. The photographer should sort the image out, not photoshop otherwise you turn photography into grahpics art

Quote:
Simply having more pixels makes little difference and anyone (magazine editors included) who reckons that an image produced on a digital camera with less than 8.2 megapixels is not worth publishing is a fool.
Mag editors will also adjust an image to suit that includes the size. The argument is not about if a image is worth printing if it is done on a 6mp camera. The argument is that agencies require certain standards, rightly or wrongly, the standard is a minimum of 8mp which Pentax at the mo can't provide.

Quote:
John Riley is absolutely correct - it's the filesize that matters, not the CCD size
Is what you're saying is I could get a 1mp camera, then using photoshop, blow the image up to 16x12" 600dpi BMP image, that would be better than say a DL's image being blow up to 16x12" 300dpi JPG cos that's just silly.

Quote:
Now to be really picky. You mentioned that upsizing requires making pixels that just weren't there. This isn't entirely a valid argument I'm afraid. Even the Canon 1Ds-MkII has to make pixels that weren't there - it has 16.7 million pixels. BUT that's only 8.35 million green pixels, and 4.2 million red pixels, and 4.2 million blue pixels. The other 8.35M green, and 12.5M red and 12.5M blue have to be "guessed" So, even the 1Ds might not be enough for you... there's always the Phase One 39Mp digital backs for medium format
Don't know much about canon cameras, so I can't comment about this. However, I do like to know where this info came from. If this £4500 camera is doing that though, what are pentax 6mp camera doing? How many REAL pixels do they have?

Quote:
I suppose you are referring to the fact that it takes a while to actually take the image. Simple answer: all Pentax DSLRs can disengage the "autofocus-on-half-press". Then, when you push the shutter it fires immediately.
You then focus with your thumb pressing the "OK" button on the back (or the dedicated AF button on the *ist-D).
Problem pretty much solved.
No! I'm referring to the fact that the focusing system is slow. So problem not solved

Quote:
perhaps it would have been cheaper for you to have asked a few questions here before spending £1000+ on your nonamesupplied DSLR. Of course, as Matt says, if you have to 'look' like a Pro then you have to have the 'C' or 'N' name on your DSLR body.

Hopefully you've gained a little more insight into the capabilities of Pentax DSLR's. One thing you are right about, unfortunately not all models are now easily available but they are available if you want to look.
£1000+ well spent far as I'm concerned, but then again, you don't miss what you never had, do you?

That settles it then....I'm gonna have to hang up the "Out of Business" sign.....
Just hand me another stone and tell Goliath to back the F**** off.
It's quite clear to me that either the reviewer never got his hands on the DL or couldn't operate the camera properly. I do know somebody with a DL and he's never complained about under exposure or artifacts and I've seen his work.

As I've said before, the DL is a fine camera and my only issue is with the amount of pixels. I understand that Pentax has joined partnership with anyother company, Samsung I think, so hoperfully this issue will be corrected in the future and the new 10mp camera due this october is a gigantic step in the right direction.
