Sigma 24-70 arrived with remarkable speed. In great condition and thoughtfully packaged - many thanks for a straightforward transaction (and good luck buying the ring).

I've often wondered exactly the same. I had an FA 28mm f2.8 as part of my old film kit - and would probably have traded it in had it not somehow found its way into a sock drawer, where it lay undiscovered for a few years. I was delighted to remake its acquaintance, but have hardly used it since.

Your post has persuaded me to attach it to the front of a K-5 and I'll give it a whirl while walking to work...

a) Hope to be there
b) I'll have to leave north-west Kent at stupid o'clock, so an hour one way or t'other makes little difference
c) Somewhere that serves a hearty breakfast?
d) It's 30 years since I lived in the area, so I'd prefer to be guided by those with contemporary knowledge

If memory serves, the last two I saw on eBay fetched £700-800 - but I haven't noticed such a listing for quite a few months.

Out of curiosity, I recently asked a dealer about market values and was told a K-mount Sigma 100-300 f4 might fetch "£1100-1200, if we could get hold of one", which gives you an idea about scarcity and perceived demand.

It's obviously worth keeping an eye on dealer websites, but it's the kind of thing that could be snapped up before they've had an opportunity to list it. eBay patience is probably the best option, with an emphasis on "patience".

I'm told it was a little slow in low light, a problem subsequently addressed when the Long Tom IIs was launched.

In the mid 1970s I took my first motorsport photos with a folding camera, albeit a Kershaw that was a little more manoeuvrable than a Wisner 16x20. The apparatus below must be of Wisner-like heft, though. It was being used earlier this year at the Goodwood Revival Meeting. The tripod head probably weighs more than several K-5s...

All taken with a Sigma 100-300mm f4, Steve. It has a standard UV filter, but nothing more complex.

A few from the Plum Pudding meeting at Mallory Park. If you're wondering about the contrasting brightness, it was sunny for a while but some idiot then switched off the light...
