Didn't spot that!

This is great in my eyes, Alan - composition, colour, texture, reflections, everything. Assume it's somewhere off the north-east coast: St Mary's Lighthouse, perhaps?

Still can't see a kingfisher, but it's none the worse for that.

This works for me, although I found my eyes wandering all over the place before settling on the reflected clock.

I like the contrast between the wonderfully vibrant colours that dominate and the drab, everyday street furniture at the bottom. To make it more of a Wennington signature shot, though, it probably needs a kingfisher on the lamp...

Great stuff, Barrie.

I like #2 as it is, but would be interested to see the modified version as proposed by Nigel.

I often leave the M40 at junction 5 to observe the red kites that gather nearby. They drift quite low and I've managed a few OK shots, but nothing even remotely as detailed as these...

Sorry Vic. The thought never occurred!

The worst I can say, Alan, is priceless!

Are you finding [that 300] offers much over the 100-300?
In terms of IQ, Mark, I don't think there;s a great deal in it. In terms of motor sport coverage, the 100-300 has a few clear advantages: I witnessed a couple of minor mishaps on Saturday, but was unable to capture them because the falling riders were too close for the 300mm. I was desperately trying to twist it back to 150mm or so, through force of habit, but that didn't work for some reason...

Henceforth I'll probably use the 300 in conjunction with the Sigma 50-150, and the 100-300 with something a bit wider (probably the DA 17-70). Chances are that I'll still have the wrong body/lens to hand whenever something spectacular occurs.

As for the shadows, I haven't done much PP: I generally crop in PS Elements, hit 'autofix', reverse the process if I don't like it and then stick the result in a folder. I wish I could claim greater levels of sophistication, but I can't...

I haven't posted any motorsport shots for at least a few days, so... Before uploading, though, a word in praise of Alan Marlow at AM Technical in Shepperton. His repair service has received quite a few accolades on PU and I'd like to add another. He has just sorted out my much-used Sigma 100-300mm f4 after it ceased to produce sharp images. I'm quite good at taking soft photos, but in this instance there was definitely a technical glitch. Alan stripped the lens down, tightened a few bits that had worked loose and gave it a good clean - and all for a price that was extremely reasonable. It is now back to its customarily crisp self and I'm left with a dilemma. Do I use the 100-300, my recently acquired DA 300mm f4 or should I simply take both of them everywhere..?

In the meantime, here's some motorbike stuff...

4 - Or perhaps not. Shane Byrne leads the first of the weekend's three BSB races. He eventually tumbled, but two victories on Sunday wrapped up the title - a task made slightly easier by rival Ryuichi Kiyonari's withdrawal in the wake of a collarbone-fracturing fall on Saturday morning (K-5 IIs, DA 300mm f4)

That's what I'll be trying at Brands Hatch this weekend, for curiosity's sake.

[off topic]Some fabulous, fabulous shots on your site, Chris - a credit to both you and Pentax[/off topic].

The flower shot was taken using spot metering. Try going with centre-weighted average metering, to see how much difference that makes.
