Everything about that last shot just works, Andy - absolutely fabulous and a wonderful note on which to end the set. Definitely my pick.

I appreciate the technique in shot #4, but the subject isn't really my cup of tea,

Thanks for all your input during the past few days - I've really enjoyed the voyage,

I like the effect, Andy - nice to see a bit of film-era manipulation, too.

I think the first instalment of chapter two scores most highly for composition and benefits from some interesting lighting effects. HDR shots sometimes stand accused of being 'overcooked', but if anything this one seems to have been removed from the oven slightly too early -- the colours lack a bit of punch, from where I'm sitting. That said, I do quite like it. There are elements that look more like a painting than a photograph.

That's a fabulous image, Andy. Sloping horizons are one of my bugbears, but I was so captivated by the mood, texture and colour of the original shot that I didn't notice it!

Roll on #2.

Great stuff, Alan, as usual. I like all three, with a slight preference for the second if pushed.

That last one didn't grab me in the same manner as the previous four, Kris. The colour looks a little flat (although that might be my monitor) and - a personal thing - I prefer shots like this to have a shallower depth of field, to separate one or two flowers from the rest.

I've really enjoyed your selections these past few days. The bridge shot (#4) probably just nicks it for me, with the horse a close second.

Thanks for your efforts - much appreciated.

x 2 to pretty much all the above.

Very atmospheric, Kris, and probably my favourite of your four shots to date.

Concur with all the above. Miserable failure has taught me how tricky it can be to nail exposure in a contrasty, snowy landscape, but this is an object lesson in the art. Lovely detail in the equine clothing, too.

Look forward to the next instalment,

Even later to the party after somehow managing to miss the kick-off...

I stared long and hard at the first shot before twigging that it was a reflection, rather than a composite. Great idea, but to my eye the contrasting elements don't really work as a whole. If we all carried giant mirrors, as well as tripods, the creative potential would be huge.

I like both versions of shot #2, but agree with those who feel the subtle colour adds a certain something. Either way, its an image that's beautifully simple and very striking.

These are really nice, David, photos that catch your attention through atmosphere, subtlety and composition.

If you organise that trip, count me in!
