These are quite handy to have in your camera bag for compact cameras. They're also useful for positioning battery flash units off-camera.

This page illustrates using a table top tripod in the field, showing you don't always need to carry a large support for a small camera.

And for going really small, it's worth remembering this classic designed by Walter Zapp. Beautifully made, the size of a long pen and built to last.

Then I'm glad you have such excellent and common sense taste in camera supports.

I have both the ivory white I-10 (which I bought at full price when it was released) and the classic black version (bought more recently when the price dropped.

Both cameras are capable of producing decent quality results and I happily keep one with me as an everday carry.

Over the years I've shot everything from Minox 8x11 to 10x8 so I count myself as reasonably experienced to make a judgement.

The Manfrotto table-top tripod is a cheaper alternative to the Leica table top tripod.

Both are solid, compact and will last a lifetime's use.

In the field, hold firmly against a tree, door, wall or other solid vertical object and use a self timer or remote/cable release to trigger the camera shutter.

Can also be used as a chest pod when seated with a long lens at press conferences. I've used one with a 180mm f2.8 this way for head and shoulder shots.

If you want something a little bigger with a pan/tilt head for panoramics, the Velbon CX-mini is a good contender.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for posting these two images John, as they make an interesting contrast.

There are other comparisons between the analogue and digital cameras:

Pentax Auto 110 / 110 Super:

* 110 film speed ran from ISO 80 to ISO 400,
* Auto winder gave 1 frame per second,
* 110 Super gave 1.5 stops exposure compensation,
* Range of lenses covered 35mm to 140mm (in 35mm terms),
* Soligor 1.7x Teleconverter extended range to 238mm,
* thumb-operated wind-on lever on right side of camera,
* 110 system used original Pentax lettering, rather than the condensed font used on current digital cameras.

Pentax I-10:
* digital speed starts at ISO 80 and ends at ISO 6400,
* continuous shooting at 2.6 frames per second,
* I-10 optical zoom covers 28mm to 140mm (with scene mode giving 21mm equivalent),
* thumb-operated zoom lever on right side of camera,
* I-10 uses original Pentax lettering.

Can't help thinking the I-10 was designed to appeal to veteran 110 film users and is a very capable little camera.

Seriously classy kit. Reminds me of the red Hasselblad H4D-40 limited edition.

It seems the Pentax Photo Gallery doesn't accept submissions from Option users, as their email reply states:

"Hi,

We don't currently accept Optios into the Gallery. It is built for DSLR
cameras.

Best,
PPG"

Shame, as these compacts can produce decent results

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I like the Optio I-10, being a fan of the original Pentax Auto 110 (regrettably I never got round to buying one).

When Pentax brought out the I-10 I couldn't resist getting it for an everyday carry and would be delighted if they produce a more advanced model.

Latest gallery offering here.

More to follow.
