Thanks for reaching out, Gareth.
UK now being non-EU unfortunately adds around 30% to the sale price for me …

Looking to buy one of these in good condition.

I've just gone through the whole lot on mine. It works as detailed above. The only other thing I can think of is, what is the program dial set for? (The big one on the top on the left). If it's an all-manual lens it might need to be set to M ?
I just put an SMC M 50mm onto the camera. I turned it on and nothing appeared on the back screen, F-- was in the aperture LED and the shutter speed varied automatically as I waved the camera around. Nothing changes on either Av or Tv, the green button won't work and nothing changes if I turn the lens aperture ring (including the iris). Now I have changed it to M. If I wave the camera around, the speed remains unchanged and F-- is still displayed. The front E dial will change the speed as desired. Press the green button and the correct speed is set according to what value is set on the aperture ring. When I press the shutter release, the camera will close the aperture automatically and use the speed discovered by the green button. The difference if you use an M42 screw lens with an adapter is that you can't get a reading with the green button since the camera has no way of closing the iris. In this case use the iris manually and set the camera to Av, in which case the speed will alter according to the light coming through the lens. You can check your own camera (set on Av) by mounting a Takumar lens with an auto/manual switch. Toggling the switch to open and close the iris should produce instant changes of speed on the LED panel.
I hope that was helpful?
It was indeed. I'm using M lenses and changing the program dial to M changed everything (no idea why I hadn't thought if that myself) and it's now working like it should 😊
Thank you 👍

If you've only just bought it and it has proved faulty, can you return it for replacement or refund as not fit for purpose? You shouldn't have to get involved in organising repairs for something you've just bought unless it was from a boot sale or similar, but even then I've returned faulty cameras at those.
I've had it for quite some time but just now tried one of my manual focus lenses on it. Have been using my K10D with the manual lenses and the K5 with the automatic up until now.

The only other thing to check is the memory setting in the capture menu, which selects which items are retained after the camera is switched off. However, I had a quick look and saw nothing that affected the problem you are experiencing.

If all else fails, contact JPS for advice as a repair may be needed.
Thanks for your time and effort, John.
I am unable to find the "memory setting in capture menu" however. Could you guide me
a bit more?

It's item 27 on the custom menu. Select the item, move the setting to Permitted and then click OK. The item should now show it is set to option 2.

That should be it.
Yep, that´s what I have done. But then when turning the camera off and then on again its back to "not allowed"/option 1...

Just realized that the camera doesn´t save my changes in the custom setting when I change it to "allow aperture ring". I change it, then press "ok" and finally "menu". When turning the camera off and then back on again the setting in "aperture ring" is back "not allowed" mode... So first step for me is to figure out why the camera doesn´t save my changes.
Any ideas (sorry about my possible incompetence)?

Hi all,
I have been using manual focus lenses on my K10D for a long time.
Having now bought a K5 I am experiensing problems getting even started with my new camera and manual focs lenses.
I have set "allow aperture ring" and subsequently when mounting the lens and switching the camera on I seem to get stuck.
On my K10D I would now have to choose the focal lenght on the mounted lens but with the K5 this is not the case and I just cant figure out how to proceed.
Any ideas would be most welcome.
