Manual focus lens on K5
You won't need to enter a focal length if you are using an A series lens, in which case just set the aperture ring on A and let the camera control the aperture.
In what way are you "stuck" after switching on the camera, can you be more specific?

Any ideas (sorry about my possible incompetence)?
That should be it.

It's item 27 on the custom menu. Select the item, move the setting to Permitted and then click OK. The item should now show it is set to option 2.
That should be it.
Yep, thatīs what I have done. But then when turning the camera off and then on again its back to "not allowed"/option 1...
If all else fails, contact JPS for advice as a repair may be needed.

The only other thing to check is the memory setting in the capture menu, which selects which items are retained after the camera is switched off. However, I had a quick look and saw nothing that affected the problem you are experiencing.

Thanks for your time and effort, John.
I am unable to find the "memory setting in capture menu" however. Could you guide me
a bit more?
If you've only just bought it and it has proved faulty, can you return it for replacement or refund as not fit for purpose? You shouldn't have to get involved in organising repairs for something you've just bought unless it was from a boot sale or similar, but even then I've returned faulty cameras at those.
I've had it for quite some time but just now tried one of my manual focus lenses on it. Have been using my K10D with the manual lenses and the K5 with the automatic up until now.

Something else to try, when you set item 27 on the custom menu to 2 and come back out of the menu, try going back in immediately to check if it is still on 2 (don't switch the camera off.) If it hasn't perhaps you're exiting from the menu without saving the setting somehow. If it does retain it, see if the camera seems otherwise normal now and lets you take the photo. Then if you turn the camera off and back on, has the item 27 menu option reverted back to 1.
If it's reverted, does the camera retain the date and time? If not it could be the internal memory capacitor has run flat and needs a fully charged battery in to restore it (presuming it hasn't gone bad.)

I have been using manual focus lenses on my K10D for a long time.
Having now bought a K5 I am experiensing problems getting even started with my new camera and manual focs lenses.
I have set "allow aperture ring" and subsequently when mounting the lens and switching the camera on I seem to get stuck.
On my K10D I would now have to choose the focal lenght on the mounted lens but with the K5 this is not the case and I just cant figure out how to proceed.
Any ideas would be most welcome.
