Re. the discussion of filters generally, I have found my Lee Filters ND filters produce a subtle vignette on very wide angles, which is very obvious in the sky. This is because (I think) they are tinted glass so the light has a greater thickness to pass through at extreme angles towards the edge, ergo there is more darkening there. Filters which use a surface coating shouldn’t have this problem which is why I guess LF also produce a much more expensive pro range made in this way. All the advice is that this vignette is easy to resolve in post processing but in reality it is actually very tricky to get right.

Don’t let the negative responses put you off, I have had a K1 since launch and it is a great camera, no question. Just because someone doesn’t use pixel shift, or the multiple exposure options, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be of value to you; I use pixel shift regularly for static objects with lots of detail and there is a definite upgrade in quality, e.g.Comment Image

Full frame has advantages over a smaller sensor which are well documented so I need not go into here, As for the K1 or K1.II, I didn’t upgrade because there were reviews which said the high iso performance wasn’t as good, but no doubt there are other benefits. Whichever you go for I am sure you will like the results.

Walkeja, I have been doing that trying to photograph snowdrops and normally that works ok, except for some reason using a 30 year old lens the autofocus in live view doesn't work; even using manual focus I like to half-press the shutter to get the focus alert as my eyes are not as sharp as they once were.

Michael, thanks for the link, which puts me in something of a dilemma, do I go for a Pentax model or one that fits all makes? The latter would make reselling easier or usable if I get another brand. It looks tempting although I was hoping for something a bit cheaper.

GGP, I have just checked the prices of the Olympus Varifinder you have, they are rather higher than I would was hoping to pay so thanks for the offer, I am sure you would get a better price elsewhere.

Thanks GGP, does anyone know if the eyepiece is the same on all later DSLRs?

Does anyone have recommendations for a right angle viewfinder for the K1? SRB Photographic show one which looks like the same model with different names elsewhere - Neewer, Seagull etc. - but the compatible camera list looks out of date.

Remotes normally need a line of sight with the little sensor on the body, but other options for which this doesn’t apply are:
Image sync to phone/tablet by Bluetooth. This will also let you operate exposure settings and select a focus point.
Radio connection. I don’t know the options for Pentax but you can use two Cactus transceivers, one on the camera with a cable connection to the shutter, and the other acts as the remote button. This will work over a greater distance than the optical remotes.

I mentioned elsewhere rediscovering some 50 year old Kodachrome slides in the attic I thought lost. They are of a road trip around Norway I went on with a friend which I am now digitising, although the slides will probably outlive the digital versions. The quality isn’t great, due to the limitations of the equipment and my youthful lack of skill, and the film struggled with the huge dynamic range of bright Northern light, but there is a surprising amount of detail that Lightroom can extract. The best ones are going into a photo book as a memento, a copy of which I would love to give to my travelling companion if she can be traced but that is a very long shot.
