Hi Dan, I tried some at the TPS as well, as you say the lenses are large and their weight is a real problem on the smaller bodies with inadequate grips because they feel so unbalanced; most of the weight is carried by your left hand supporting the lens which makes manual focus awkward.

See the manual, for the K1 it is page 43 but look up PEF in the index: you want Image Capture Settings in menu 2. You can change the file settings on buttons fx1 or fx2 so maybe yo have pressed one of these by mistake? If you don’t happen to have the manual you can download it from the Pentax website and save on a phone, tablet or whatever. I hope this helps.

I have just checked on my K1 and you can select PEF or DNG in the above menu, RAW File Format.

We have seen Canon and Nikon introduce new larger mounts for their mirrorless and of course starting a whole lot of new lenses to suit; this option is clearly outside Ricoh’s capacity on top of their other ranges. Also it occurs that it would go against the Pentax philosophy of backwards compatibility, in place it would be interesting to see some innovative developments in DSLRs like the nifty mirror movement in the K1/K1II which reduces body size.

I am just irritated by the mirrorless fanatics convinced that everyone will eventually switch when they realise how much better it is (sic). Why cannot both systems coexist to suit different preferences? Am I cynical to think that Sony are behind this massive campaign to render all competition obsolete like they have in the past with other technologies? I have just bought a small mirrorless, not in the same field as my K1, and such a relief to return to that large clear viewfinder devoid of random focus points jumping around.

An interview in Imaging resource with Ricoh executives (there is a link in f-stoppers) on 14 May indicated where Pentax is going in the future, and it isn’t mirrorless. They are evolving the FF and MF body ranges in DSLR as well as the Ricoh range, but suggested that many of those who switched to mirrorless will revert back to DSLR, a move eased by the fact that they will still have lenses for that system. One of the reasons for not developing mirrorless is they are spread over a uniquely wide range of formats so there isn’t the capacity to look at a new system as well. As you can imagine this has brought the usual ridicule that Pentax is a dinosaur brand, but are they right? We have seen people selling their whole systems to make the switch so I don’t know how valid their assumption is, what does everyone else think?

Yes, I use the Peak Design Anchor links and I think there are others as well. It also means I can change to a more robust strap for when I have a heavy lens, or use a Peak Design wrist strap which is my current preference. The anchor links are available from Amazon, not cheap but you don’t want anything that could fail!

You attach two “buttons” to the camera with the cord loops, and the anchors fit on the strap. They just clip on or off, dead easy.

Not quick on the uptake, me! My Norwegian pal astounds the Lebanese with his comprehensive vocabulary of street and profane Arabic on his frequent visits there. Restaurants and taxi drivers cannot believe it when Mustapha turns out to be a tall blonde Scandinavian. His English is spot on as well.

It sounds as if either the shutter or the lens aperture control is working too slowly so with luck a temporary mechanical issue. I can only suggest for now you take the lens off and let the body have a chance to properly dry out somewhere.
