UPDATE: I still have one of these adapters as well as the cable, they both come with original instructions and boxes although the adapter box is a bit shabby. Happy to accept offers around £50.00 for the cable and £20.00 for the adapter, or £65.00 for both

It has been over a year since I switched from Pentax to a mirrorless system so I thought you might like me to share my thoughts, like everyone here I enjoyed the results from my K1 and assorted lenses but a few things started giving me doubts. Firstly, the weight of some lenses like the 150-450 meant I had to be selective about what I would take out, and even the f2.8 trinity became burdensome to the extent that it wasn’t so pleasurable to go for a walk. Then a lightbulb moment when I was asked to photograph moths at dusk; the 100mm macro and Pentax ring flash consistently failed to focus in the low light, hunting noisily back and forth whilst a Sony user next to me quietly and efficiently snapped away. Finally it was becoming clear that the gaps in the system were growing larger: no teleconverters for full frame, diminishing range of flash units, over reliance on outdated mechanical auto focusing, and no new full frame models on the horizon.

I tested the water with an ex-demo Olympus and whilst it lacked what full frame offered the results were surprisingly good and I began to appreciate what a mirrorless system offered: what I saw in the viewfinder was what would actually be recorded, and the brilliant image stabilisation meant I could do away with a tripod in all most the most demanding situations. I therefore found that more and more often I was leaving the Pentax gear at home in favour of the much lighter Olympus with a couple of lenses.

My concerns about the direction, or lack of, that Ricoh was taking gave my concern about the future value of the equipment I had spent a decent amount of cash investing in, led me to seriously consider switching whilst I could still get something back. Wanting to stay full frame I listed the features and lenses I used the most and compared what Canon and Nikon (not Sony thank you) offered with particular emphasis on weight, and after reading extensive reviews realised that they both offered excellent quality f4 versions of their top range f2.8 lenses in contrast to my experience of Pentax glass where the slower options give decidedly inferior results. Weightwise Canon came out top and the difference was significant enough to justify switching; having seen YouTube videos of a Nikon K7II user having to clean the sensor every day the way Canon (and larger Nikon bodies) protect the sensor with the shutter whenever a lens is removed was a big factor. When Canon announced a big discount promotion last year I decided to make the switch and got trade-In quotes from different major retailers; Park Cameras gave the best offer and stuck pretty closely to it when they received the K1 and lenses.

Sixteen months on and I am more than pleased that I switched, I can comfortably carry my full range of premium lenses giving a focal range from 24 to 700mm in a relatively compact backpack. The astounding autofocus means I can get great wildlife shots with really crisp detail. There is much derogatory talk here about mirrorless being full of gimmicks and for the instagram-obsessed, but let me reassure you that it offers serious photographers great opportunities as well.

I have kept a vintage Pentax lens and a K-mount tilt-shift which attach to the Canon via an adapter, everything is manual but with both those lenses that isn’t an issue.

Given that the K3III was about two years from announcement to fruition I don’t expect to see this before 2025. It must have at least 45mp to be viable seeing as some competing products are at this level now, and the focusing technology from the K3III although that will be four years old by then. I am sure it will be a superb camera but for me it has been left too late.

I still have these two hot shoe adapters for off-camera flash using the cable, very useful for close-up shots for instance. Also for using two flashes with one mounted on top of the camera e.g. the fixed one as a bounce flash and the hand-held one as a fill-in flash. Whilst the set-up doesn't offer the same flexibility as triggers it is much lighter and more compact, and doesn't require batteries. They were on eBay for a while but I have withdrawn them as I have had a couple of issues on other sales. I am open to any reasonable offer, especially for all three items as a bundle.

Here are the photos. I also have the Cactus shutter cable so the two Cactuses can be used as a wireless trigger.

I have a couple of these in excellent condition, one for mounting on the camera hotshoe and the other for the flash. They are supposed to be compatible with different camera and flash makes although mine are stuck on Pentax as the camera mode whatever different body I try. They are lightweight and reliable wireless remote flash activators with four independently set channels and full flash compatibility including TTL. With a cable attachment from the one on camera they can also be used as a wireless trigger.

Are they of interest to anyone here? I am open to fair offers and can post photos a bit later.

Same thing happened to my fish a year or so ago, I blamed the local cat population but then reckoned it was a young heron who somehow managed to grab carp through a narrow feed slot, pull them through and leave them on the patio. Something they do apparently.

I am surprised that folks who happily spend hundreds on a lens baulk at getting a decent photo printer, to me that is part of the process like old school darkrooms. Why get great kit and then print on a cheapo printer? Both Epson and Canon do refillable cartridge photo printers if the cost of the cartridges is offputting and you get to experiment with different papers whereas the choice in photo labs is very limited.
