To clarify...I'm looking to go up to 100mm but will also give me some scope for wide angle at the other end if that makes sense? My kit lens is okay but looking for more at the other end. These will be used on a K20D. What would a 28mm lens give me on the K20D?

Sorry for any confusuion caused...

Rob

Morning All,

Just some advice please re the above, in particular taking shots of aircraft in the static park as I'm looking to upgrade for next season after the wonderful summer airshows we've had this year...

I've got the kit lens 18-55 AL11 but am looking for something up to say 100mm. I borrowed the DA 18-250mm but found the range to be too big. I have considered the 17-70mm SDM but have read bad reviews about that otherwise that would be ideal. I also thought about a 28mm + lens but I would imagine that with the crop factor I wouldn't get much of a wide angle?

On another subject I purchased the DA*300mm a couple of weeks ago, used it at Old Warden and took some of my best aircraft photos ever and hope to use it at Duxford on Sunday, it is worth every penny

I did consider posting this on another forum specifically for aircraft but hardly anyone has any Pentax kit.

Looking forward to your advice and replies,

Rob

Thanks a lot for that advice Don. What's the best way to photograph the Northern Lights?

Regarding my recent post about 300mm lenses, I notice that Chris @ SRS is selling the Sigma 70-200mm EX DG HSM with a 2x converter. I was contemplating the EX 100-300mm until I saw this offer, any advice from anyone as to which of these would be suitable for airshows? I used a teleconverter last year, the Kenko 2x teleplus MC4 version on the tamron 70-300 that I had at the time and the images were very overexposed.
Any advice would be welcome,
Thanks

Rob

I'm off to Iceland in November and am planning to take a few landscape photographs, my current gear for landscape photography includes a K20D, DA 18-250mm lens and my late Father's SMC A series 28mm lens.
I would welcome any ideas/suggestions as to suitable photgraphic equipment that others use for landscape photography as this is a new area for me, I do most of my photography at airshows.
Thanks

Actually I've just looked at my images taken so far this year and most of them were taken at the 300mm range so that is something else to consider thanks.

I've seen some of your photos Chris and didn't have a problem re the fringing just the sharpness which I was disappointed with.

Thanks for all your comments so far. I was lucky enough to be present at Waddington this year for 558's first public display, took some good photos of it some of which had a clear blue sky as the background which was unusual this year.
My main gripe with the Sigma is with photos in flight. When I first bought it I went to Duxford and took some photos of static aircraft outside which didn't cause any problems, but then during the flying display at Farnborough I gave up on it and used my brother's Sigma 70-300 DG, the photos were a lot better, I've used it since and I don't want to rely on it the results were awful.
If I could stretch to it I would like a prime and a zoom and those are the two that I probably would get. I ordered my K20 recently from SRS, do you know if they have a shop that also sells equipment or is it just mail order?
