I think that was actually shot around 2.8
POrtraiture is all new to me and its exciting. Id rather shoot strangers than models - its so much more raw and real.
would it be best to shoot around F4 and to be safe or should I continue to try and nail the 1.7 /2/8 ?

If I had a quicker lens I know for sure I could be more confident in getting better poses etc

The drill is I go up to people I find interesting and ask for their photo.
The 50mm 1.7 is awesome when it hits the target (eye) but its tough trying to manual focus and grab just one shot - you dont get much time with a stranger.
Tell me what you think of the photos from today and please recommend me a good portrait lens in auto!
I am looking at the 50mm DA 1.8 - i take it that would be a good lens?
Cheers

I have tried three methods
Through the viewfinder
Through Live view
CAtch in focus
Viewfinder is 50% reliable
Live view is 85$ reliable
Catch in focus is 30-40 reliable
Today I used live view focusing, but the fact is people move and so do we.
The next time I go out I will shoot as many frames as I can with the individual and chance my luck!
The results wide open at 1.7 with this lens are class
