Thanks for the feed back guys some very helpful pointers there. I will be using the new Kr which got good reveiws for high iso levels so I would expect to see a better performance over the K10 at the high iso settings. My reason for not shooting with flash is it distracts both the dog and some times the owners or exhibitor, they can get a bit upset if there dog is put off by the flash so in respect to both I will use the light available. Im still feeling my way around the menus in the Kr but hope to have things sorted in a few days thanks again.
Regards Ian.

Im hoping with the new KR to up the iso and have faster shutter speeds in order to try and rid some motion blur. If any one can offer any other thoughts it would be very helpful.

Im going to a dog show in a few weeks time and will be taking photos in low light without the use of flash. Can members offer up a few tips on how to get the best results on the day the venue will be in a sports hall.

I would have a go with a 500000000000000000000000000000000000000000mm lens

we're forever updating the software we put out onto the market.

Lots of reasons:
- Marketing wanted a date set
- we've tested like crazy but there's some strange but common combination we screw up with
- new improvements should be implemented
- mild changes to avoid incompatibilities which are rare but significant

... and that's without mentioning security bugs which are the number one reason you should update EVERYTHING on your computer on a *very* regular basis. It's no longer Windows, it's everything else that runs on the computer that's now the aim of the hackers.

The other point was this: the firmware was probably produced relatively early in the cycle. Only now has someone thoroughly tested the situations which were "real", i.e. there's been code improved with regard to the high ISO buffer limits. The limit was probably there with "justification" in a certain context, but in a photography context for the user the technically correct decision may make no sense.

As such, firmware updates should be greeted - not necessarily with enthusiasm, but certainly as a sign that the company gives a toss and is trying to ensure a good product is in the hands of their customers.

Its just a pitty everything could not be put toegther at the point of manufacture but I do relise this is not always possible from the feed back to the thread. I guess I am goung to just have to bite the bullet and give it a go.

I've been a beta tester for Audio Software for the last 10 years. There's always a conflict between trying to fix every bug found and the deadlines of commerce. I've seen software released with many beta found bugs where there wasn't time to fix them and users shout on forums that the beta testers are crap.
So there lyes the answaer take more time in getting things right before the release of the product. I would far sooner wait a little longer for a camera than have to be constanly reprogaming new data. When I worked in the shipbuiding industry the engines were built fron scratch and assembeled and tested over weekks before they were sold onto the buyers this ironed out the flaws that might have shown in the tests and the problem if there were any corrected before the point of sale.
