Are you sure they weren't getting ready for an approaching tunnel, David?
;-)
I recognise that as a long shot taken by you standing on "The Cob" and having ridden the line from Porthmadog to Blaneau FFestiniog, I don't think you reach a tunnel until much higher up.
I like the immediacy of the head-on view and the wisps of steam you have captured.

Like David, you have caught her getting a gallop on and from a nice viewpoint to allow the afternoon sun to highlight the maroon liveries. A timeless shot with the old MR gas lamps.

That's a fine shot of the Jubilee charging through Oxenholme. Great exhaust!
I was the cyclist in the yellow jacket who took up my position at Ais Gill fairly early (no car to keep warm in!). I was talking to a D500 owner for a while but noticed a Pentaxian on my right nearer to the wall.

I like the immediacy that the head on view gives this. Though the Sun is more on the far side of the train, you have got plenty of light to illuminate the smokebox and the exhaust has plenty of detail to show how hard she is working already.
Our respective EXIF data shows that there was 15 minutes of hard slog between our respective captures and she was breathing hard when she reached me nea ...

Good choice of location David, not only for the viaduct but the quality of the light which maintained some saturated colours.
I saw this ensemble just after Dandry Mire viaduct near Garsdale and the sun was too much 'straight down the lens'. However the location was a short cycle ride from Garsdale station and near to The Moorcock Inn where a welcome hot lunch was had.

You've caught her giving off a good display of exhaust but the composition is a little too head on for my liking, David.
The lens results look nice and sharp and that's an apt title - wonder where you got the idea?
;-)

Putting your 70-200 to good use then, David?
A well composed shot to get a clear view of the loco between the gantries.
We must stop meeting like this!

You're brave David, having your camera out, there.
Last time I set foot on that bridge coming back towards town, I saw three youths stood about halfway along, so I turned back and bolted.
That's a decent composition you have got and the colours/effects are interesting.

Rich looking colour and a delightful vista that could be straight out of the Awdry books.

The development of stainless steel came about in1913. A plaque celebrating the centenary of this was put on display at Sheffield railway station at the appropriate time.
