Best way to evaluate is probably from the output from the camera itself, and from here too if you download the high res images you can print out and see if it satisfies your requirements too.

My own personal opinion is the lens exhibits some distressing out of focus areas. the areas are not smooth like from film emulsion (or the majority of digital cameras), it's quite digital and agressive, very unpleasant to me... look at the trees in the background.

I'm gagging for a Pentax digital SLR,
and one that is 1:1 ratio...

Major disappointment when they canceled the MZ digital, must be problems with the CCD as Contax which uses the same chip experienced teething problems and was late to market.
(and price)

Waiting to see how the new technology Foveon sensors will shake up the market too.

Only problem with the MZ digital was it was a bit on the large size (I like my cameras compact)

..but we shall wait and see what develops at Pentax..

The FA 85 f1.4 has the most amazing 3D quality about it, and is very 'real' it can be a bit soft wide open but suits it's portrait lens style.

It's a bit bulky and on the heavy side though.
The clutch focusing mechanism is very good too, which engages and disenages the autofocus mechanism quickly.

One of my favourite lenses... one of Pentax's best IMHO.

I found this 31mm lens test also has a downloadble SQF result, but it doesn't mena much to me

I haven't used the lens but was toying to buy it too.

Pentax seem to have locked themselves into a strange fashion of chosing bizarre focal lengths and 31mm, 43mm, and 77mm which contrast from the more traditional 28mm, 50mm and 85mm.

I have the 43mm, and Pentax lost a sale from me because I couldn't justify the small 12mm gap increment between 31mm and 43mm. The traditional 28mm to 50mm is a 22mm differential. Maybe Pentax is working on a 24mm Ltd edition?

By the way... where do I find a silver 49mm UV/skylight filter from ??? ??? ?

The owner who is selling this brochure has estimated the date to be 1973.

I reckon the date is nearer to at least the late 80's as there are F series autofocus lenses on the front cover, and a silver FA* 24mm lens which I reckon to be around early 1990's

What does everyone else reckon?
