The powers that be in the Church decided on the 2 minute thing, it's so that the child can walk away with it straight away. I guess they thought of Thorpe Park (or similar) and the quick turn around they have!
I was just asked, they wanted my imput as a photographer and not in the planning.
Liam, Thanks for that, I'm trying it now. I've never had to do this before so that's why I have never tried it.
I'll let you know the outcome

I need some advice, I have been asked to take some portraits for a fun-day at my Church. This is not a problem, the problem is that the photos are to be taken away by the children within 2 minutes, and this includes being mounted on card.
I know that "higher end" cameras have the ability to download the photos straight onto a laptop via firewire. Is there anyway at all possible that this or something similar can be used with either the K10D or the *istD. I don't really want to hire a camera for the day as the 1) budget won't stretch and 2) I don't have the time to get my head round the likes of a Canon or Nikon!
The only other way of doing it is to take the memory card out after every 2-3 photos, replace it with another whilst my wife transfers it to the laptop. This seems like a bit of a chore especially with 100+ children to photograph.
Your opinions will be gratefully received.

Well I have learnt 2 things today.

1 That the transmitter does not have to have the cord plugged into the PC socket

2 The shop I bought the trigger from was either telling porky pies or doesn't have a clue on what it is selling.

So thank you guys for helping me and teaching me something about a piece of kit that I have been using for a long time!!!

Ok maybe I am being really stupid here and haven't twigged this but are you saying that the transmitter doesn't have to be plugged into the cameras pc sync? Does it just slot onto the hotshoe?
This goes against what I was told by the company I bought it from. If this is the case then I don't have to buy a hotshoe adaptor!

Please forgive me if this question has already been asked but could anyone tell me what is the best thing to do in this situation.
I have owned the Pentax *istD from new and have found it very reliable and I use if for my portraiture business. I couldn't wait for the K10 to come out and bought it straight away. There are a good few differences between the *istD and the K10 but there is one that is really annoying me. Why didn't Pentax put a PC sync on the K10? Ok a lot of other camera makes haven't got them but I would have thought that if they had it on the *istD they would have put it on the K10.
Ok so here is the problem, I have a Radio Trigger for the *istD, the Transmitter fits on the camera and the sync cord goes into the camera. The Receiver fits into 1 flash head and the other is triggered by the infra red cell. The transmitter is powered off the hot shoe by a single pin and as the sync lead only communicates with the camera there is no or hardly any current being transferred.

Now if I wanted to use a trigger for the K10, would a normal hot shoe adaptor be suffice as there is no actual current going through the camera from the transmitter, the PC cable would then plug into the hot shoe adaptor. These adaptors cost about £6. Obviously I don't want to fry the camera but I also don't want to buy anything that is unnecessary.
I know I could use an infra red trigger but there is a very slight delay, (imagine using your tv controller to flick between channels, it doesn't happen instantaneously).
Pentax sell adaptors for roughly £28, there is also the Wein Safe-Sync for £45 but these are used if you want to put the sync lead straight into the camera.
Has anyone come across this before?

I received my grip within 4 days which I think is amazing. I had to pay £23 extra for import tax and UPS handling. I wasn't sent a letter, I was asked by UPS to write a cheque to cover the costs.
I still saved over £50 for the grip.

So thanks prodigital2000 for an excellent bargain!!!

Hopefully it won't cost too much but I am prepared to pay as I have saved in the long run. It is sad that people get taken to the cleaners in this country, I wish I had bought my *ist from Canada.
I'll let you know how much import duty and VAT costs when it is delivered.

Hello, I'm new to Pentax User but not new to Pentax. Having used Pentax cameras for at least 10 years, I find them the most reliable I have ever used. I bought my first digital SLR about 2.5 years ago, the *ist D. Fantastic camera, everything I wanted. For the body and grip alone it cost me just over £1200. So obviously when the K10 came out I wanted it.
I have just set up my own Portraiture business so money is tight. I got a good offer on the body but was quite shocked at the price of the battery and the grip.
I read a comment on this site refering to the battery prices and bought a cheaper version than the Pentax, so thank you for saving me the money.
The next bit was buying the grip. If your used to using the *ist D with a grip then I think the K10 grip is a must too. I was shocked that the cheapest one I could get was at a whopping £150
I started to have a look round trying to find a cheaper site but had no luck in doing so, until I looked at ebay.
If I told you that I had bought a grip for £65 would you believe me?
Ok the p&p cost £25 as the item is being flown over from Canada but I was willing to pay that. Oh and yes you probably will have to pay import tax, but on an item like this it will only be £5 - £10. The grip should be arriving today via UPS. Oh and the grip does come with a free wireless remote control.
So there you go, if you want a grip but don't want to pay UK prices, shop in Canada
