From seeing all your shots taken hand held using the 170-500mm, I don't think you would ever have to use either a tripod or a monopod. You must have the steadiest hands ever!
I personally switch off the SR when using my monopod, but that's personal choice.

Maybe it's a habit that I am reluctant to let go of. From the age of 12, when my dad bought me my first camera, a Praktica MTL50, I have always popped a UV filter on the front of my lenses.
Now I'm in my 30 somethings I still do that.
I take so much care of my equipment that I will do anything to protect it, even if it's only a "flimsy" piece of glass. I have a top level insurance who will replace anything straight away, but it's the hassle.
I will continue to protect my lenses in my old fashioned way but I do understand if people think it's a little OTT, but that's me really

Carl, I did have a UV filter on that lens just for protection and it was an expensive one.
Like I said, it's cheaper to buy another filter than to buy a new lens if you do drop it.

Paul

ps glad you received it ok

Edit: spelling mistake

I really like the size of the K20 and hope they don't make it smaller. I know I shouldn't mention other makes here but the Nikon D3 is a lovely size and weight.

Keep the size, I like a good size camera in my hands, blimey that sounds like I'm compensating for something..................Moving on!!!!

Mr Bug if they are both awful and cheap lenses why did you buy them, as far as I am concerned they are OK and a lot of people are very happy with them.
I got them both as kit lenses and therefore sold them straight away. I deleted both of my posts as I fear I could upset some people with my comments.

...and as I've said before both lenses are probably the best 'standard' fitment on any DSLR.
And yes, I do agree with you. Kit lenses are renowned to be cheap and of bad quality but, like I say, I do agree that these lenses are of a much better quality than other makes

I suppose it depends on what you take photograhs of. I love the great outdoors so "Outdoor Photography" is one of my faves. I also buy "Professional Photographer" now and again.
The only ones I get delivered are the BIPP magazine, "The Photographer" and also "Digital Camera" as that was bought as a subscription for me as a birthday present.

I have spoken to W/E already today, before posting this on the forum, they said that they will refund it no problem.

All I am doing here is offering it to anyone who might be interested.
If no-one is interested by the end of the day then I will send it back.
