As PeteL said:
My feeling is that Pentax will be around for a good while yet though! It still has an enviable reputation in some parts of the world even if it has taken a back seat in recent years in English speaking countries.
With regard to Pentax availability, I spend a good deal of time in Burgundy, France where you can still find camera shops in relatively small towns. Pentax products are usually readily available and the brand seems to have a respected market position. Of course, Pentax Europe are now based in France so perhaps this is no coincidence.

Although I have not been to France to order Pentax, gear, the english speaking world are sort of forgetting that Pentax exist. More fool them, but not good for use english speaking users.
However, even though certain shops are not stocking Pentax gear (Jessops spring to mind), there are plenty of places that do. For instance Jacobs in Manchester can't get enough K-7 bodies to sell, and Mathers in Bolton promote Pentax gear. All this "Pentax Will Die" is nonsense. If for som reason it did, there would be another who would continue the K mount due to the massive number of users.....but it won't, like it did'nt back in 2003 when Pentax had no serious DSLR, and the 90's with no "pro" camera, 80's, 70's etc.....
I just wish that more stores had the complete selection to choose from...
Anyway, with SRS and cameraworld and WEX, I can get what I want, but without testing.
Rant over.
16-45 over the 16-50? Well, the 16-50 is faster and has sealing, but the 16-45 is a lot cheaper and still great. Personally go fo the 16-45, as most of the time you will be stepping down anyway, and I got mine for £180.
12-24 Samsung is cheaper and essentially the Pentax but with different coatings, and again, cheaper.
10-20, I have the sigma and its great.
Finally, if you don't want to buy new, there are plenty (okay - millions!) of k mount primes out there to get hold of, from fleabay to classic dealers. I have bought a few and work well with my bodies.
Long Live Pentax and the K mount!

Comment by Offertonhatter posted on SMC 1.8/55. Anybody use it? at 11/10/2009 - 18:40
I don't have the 12-24 but I have heard it is excellent. If you cannot afford the 12-24mm, then the 10-20mm is an excellent alternative.
In fact it has got a cult following in all mounts.
I have heard that the Tamron 10-24 is getting good reviews, but in a recent Mag test, it was'nt quite as good as the Sigma.
Either way, what ever lens you get, they have all got good reputations.

Now I have found this AF adjustment in the menus of the K20D.
Has anyone used it? What are the best ways to use it, and is it subject to individual lenses? (I have noticed is will do one shot or ALL in the settings, whatever that means)
Advices please.

Anyway I digress, The 120-400mm, would complement the 50-135mm well, with only 15mm overlap at the long end. This months practical photography rated it highly, in fact put it 10 points higher than the Canon 100-400mm L lens, and won the group test. Praise indeed! And all this for a street price of £600!
I am very tempted to get one, maybe thats the route to go.
Hope this helps Nathan.
