DARK images Posted in Troubleshooter	Hi there, i'm sure it's just me not gelling with the new camera yet. but does anyone else find k100d super to be very dark? i was just shooting at 1/50, f4.5 and iso 1600.... and still images were very dark. what am i doing wrong? even at f1.8 and 1/50 iso400... i'm needing to adjust exposure in processing. i'm indoors, the light has 3 bulbs on it, and i don't feel the room is all that dark to need these sort of settings.

poor battery life Posted in General Photographic Discussion	Hi there, i've just gone through a brand new set of duracell alkaline batteries in about 40 shots with my k100d super. without flash. is this normal? i'm going to pick up some rechargables i just haven't had a chance yet. is there any particular ones which will give me decent battery life? i've used 7dayshop 2900mh ones before and they seem quite decent, has anyone used them in their camera?

equivalent focal length Posted in General Photographic Discussion	Hi there, i thought i'd ask as i'm a little confused. when using manual lenses and the camera asks for focal length, is it asking for marked, or equivalent? what's the maths to work it out? (it's a k100d super if that makes a difference. also, if using a 2x teleconverter.... is that still 2x? or does the crop factor also affect that?

Posted in Lenses for Pentax Cameras	Economics for me too really. when i started with a nikon i couldn't afford to buy digital type lenses. and those which i might have been able to pick up weren't really worth having. whereas using old glass and adapter rings, i was able to get a couple of really nice lenses for pocket money just by sacrificing autofocus. couldn't have been happier with them, then i sold the camera and kept the lenses. and that's why i've gone with a pentax body this time round for better compatibility to the type of lenses i can afford and that i enjoy using. even when they aren't perfect, they have a character that can't be matched by new stuff. that said, if it's not your thing, don't worry about it. i doubt you'll get lens snobbery because you prefer to use modern glass.
Does anyone have an smc Pentax-M 50mm F1.7 and an opinion :) Posted in Lenses for Pentax Cameras	I have an old m42 mount petri 50mm f1.8 lens i used to use on a nikon adapter. i am awaiting an adapter for the pentax for it now, but been looking at this pentax f1.7 lens and wondering if i should get it as well. do you folks reckon it might not be a great deal better than the 50 i already have? or would it be very much a great improvement? £12.50's a steal for basically any lens i think! well done!! i find manual focus on my dogs to be quite easy, even if theyre bouncing around or barking. i think it depends more on your familiarity with your dog than your skill with a lens. my friend's a pro car photographer and he can't make even my show dogs look decent because he has no clue about their "angles" or the nuances of being a dog.
k100d super odd sound? Posted in Troubleshooter	Ok thanks. i had read that somewhere else, but even when switched off it was doing it which is what worried me. i've read elsewhere though that the mech for it still runs even when it's disengaged. and makes the same noise when mirror up for sensor cleaning. might as well delete post if any mods can be bothered, non issue. happy new pentax owner :)
k100d super odd sound? Posted in Troubleshooter	Afternoon all. my k100d super arrived today, very pleased with it, it's like brand new. haven't had a proper play with it yet, but i've noticed when the exposure is a bit longer, there's a strange noise coming from the camera. like a whirring/burning sound. image review comes on when it stops so i am assuming it's to do with the memory buffer. is this sound normal?

Not had a dslr in a long while now. Previous was a nikon D50. Looking forward to getting back into the swing of things :)
