Well I have got the Metz 48 and it is a P-TTL unit, they have probably launched it in time for the Christmas market.

As I understand it the numbers refer to the guide number (power) of the gun. Therefore the 48 has a guide number of 48 (metres) and so on.

After reading the good stuff I got from asking about my in built flash on the K100D Super I am thinking of buying a Metz 48 AF-1. It's about on my budget limit. In the past Metz were good, but what is the current thinking on them? Does anyone have one of these and how is it?

Aren't they a bit like insurance, you hope younever have to claim, and you don't like paying for it , but you sure are grateful when something does go wrong. I must say I have only damaged one filter in 30 years, but my luck says as soon as I take them off I'll scratch a lens! So you see I've got my self into a sort of supersticious belief about them so I better carry on fitting them.

I have done a search on Google and I only seem to find retailers telling me why such and such filter will help me (in other words they are trying to sell me something).

What I would like to find is an unbiased objective breakdown of types of filters and how they can affect the image, or why they might be used in certain light conditions.

Are they as important now that you can do so much with an image on a PC?

If anyone knows of a site that provides what I want could you post a link
please?

Can anyone provide a list of basic filter types and their applications for future reference?

What are the merits or otherwise of buying filters for lens protection?

Are filters marketed for digital cameras any different from ones for film cameras, and if so how?
