Because I like it this way. Colours are also ok for me but not every time. More , for me the "digital" colours looks very "boring" (all are the same - one could't tell that sensor/camera was used ) without any... personality, let's say. Of course, B&W film is even better than digital B&W at least for me, again.
But that's just my oppinion.

PS. I changed my B&W TV for a colour one about four years ago Television IS NOT photography ("paiting" with light) although both are, in one way or another, communication channels. Anyway, for me, the message is important. Some messages are good to tell them coverd in a B&W coat thers using colours, it depends.

The only post-processing was the HDR (&tonemapping)( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_imaging ) which together with landscape photography would be the first time for me doing it (everything was automatic - I just opened the files and the post processing went by itself).
The HDR photos (most of those containing sky) ware made from three differently exposed photos. I could't do use more not having with me a tripod.
Regarding that banding could be a phenomenon seen at a high altitude; I don't know for sure. My brother was with me and his photos too contains it (different camera, different settings, no HDR).
Next time the first to check for will be the filters especially the POL one. Is very importnat mostly because the sky is even more blue at higher altitude

It was pretty deserted being more a winter destination. I didn't took with me no filters so I did some HDR photos for the first time (same as the landscapes).

The kit lens was used on a K100D except 11,12,15,16,17 for which I used 80-320.
