I am unclear as to whether you are referring to my blithe spirit or to my insufferable pedantry, but I shall choose the former.

Deep and depth have the same etymological root and its quite a deep root.
"the depth of field is deep"
because it makes no more sense than
"the depth of the pond is deep"
You can say
"the pond is deep"
but
"the field is deep" may not be clear so I think "deep" should probably be avoided.
You could say "the depth of field is large"

I was at a friends wedding on Saturday with my K10D and 50mm f/1.4.
Without flash you'll find f/1.4 at ISO1600 is probably too slow, I wouldn't consider anything slower.
I found ISO1600 & f1.4 good enough with SR on, or if I was braced up against something.
the ISO recommended for that might be along the lines of 400-800 depends on your camera.
Hope you find this a bit helpful ???

I reckon under those conditions f/1.4 takes you from "no chance" to "good luck" in terms of likelyhood of a usable shot.
Something like the 16-45 f/4 for example is a fine lens but unless you're mounting it on a K-x where you can go to ISO 12800 you just don't have a chance.

Miss the shot of a lifetime because you press the shutter only to hear...Beep Beep Beep! you left it on 12sec timer
Look at the back of a film camera after taking a shot
Repeatedly mashing the shutter button on an ME-Super, wondering why it wont go off, only to realise you have to wind this one on.
OR, Repeatedly mashing the shutter button on an Auto110, wondering why it wont go off, only to realise you have to wind this one on.....TWICE!
