I find my Lumix compact (I know, heresy, its not a Pentax) tends to overexpose a bit in normal light conditions. Through trial and error I have found that it overexposes by ~+2/3 of a stop, so now I leave the exposure compensation on at -2/3 most of the time. I find this increases the proportion of acceptable images. If your A20 is underexposing by a consistant amount the same idea might work for you.

If you were shooting an SLR I would agree with George, and to get the best shots he is certainly right, but a point and shoot should provide acceptable images without fiddling, that's why its called a point and shoot.

You're not alone! But persevere, and in the fullness of time we may, if we are lucky, and drop enough hints, have the Mattmatic Guide to Silkypix.

One thing I would say is that I almost always find I have to increase the contrast in Silkypix for K10D pictures.

G[/quote]Good old George, never miss a chance to bug Matt for that how-to do you? lol

I agree with the contrast thing, I have my 10D set to default to +1 contrast since I often end up bumping it. Not a complaint though, its sooo nice to have that massive dynamic range there when you want it.

hi pug

take a look at a program called GIMP.

It's a freeware photoshop-esc program and personally I think its the best image editor you can get for less than £100.

Even if you don't agree, since its free you loose nothing by downloading it and having a look.

the Linux version (which is free) claims support for the K10D because its based on the latest version of DCRAW.

Unfortunately, try as I might I can't get it to run.

A common question about the 10D seems to be on the subject of the capabilities of the SR system.

I took these on my way home from a trip to visit my sister in Aberystwyth this weekend. This first shot was taken from a car in motion at aproximately 70MPH (I hasten to add I was in the front passenger seat, photography while driving is a bad idea!)

Pentax K10D + 18-55mm lens @ 45mm

This second one I call "Murphys Law of Traffic"

both hand held. They aren't the worlds greatest shots I know, but I quite like them and they really show off the capabilities of the SR system. The first one in particular could not be taken without it, tripod or no, that is a bumpy section of motorway.

I must admit I've never seen one, perhaps if you were shooting tethered it might be and advantage but that's currently not possible with the K10D anyway.

I think he's talking about the AC power "brick" rather than a battery charger.

I'd have thought if it has the right plug, polarity, and output then it would work, however personally I'd be much too chicken to actually plug a non-Pentax PSU into my beloved *istDL2 let alone my K10D

mmmm come to think of it the spider I saw was probably big enough to wield a camera, and with Pentax's tradition of small and light cameras they would be the obvious choice

You don't live in Bedford do you IS?

either that or he's just being overly modest
