I'd have thought if it has the right plug, polarity, and output then it would work, however personally I'd be much too chicken to actually plug a non-Pentax PSU into my beloved *istDL2 let alone my K10D

A badly regulated power supply might shorten the life of your battery. It might even decide to short-circuit itself, and fry your battery.
Having said that, if you have bought a cheap spare battery, then a cheap battery charger would be the appropriate choice. It is unlikely to destroy enough cheap batteries to pay for an expensive Pentax charger.
But use the Pentax charger for the battery that came with the camera.

I think he's talking about the AC power "brick" rather than a battery charger.

Ah!I think he's talking about the AC power "brick" rather than a battery charger.
But the same considerations apply. If I were to use a non-Pentax power supply, it would have to be a good one. "Made in China" would rule it out.

Wouldn't using a non-pentax power supply invalidate your warranty?

Only if they find out.Wouldn't using a non-pentax power supply invalidate your warranty?
But having a look at the port, finding a suitable connector might be difficult.
No problem... There's nothing like removing opportunities for idiots to prove themselves as such.

Michael;
Why dont you find a power supply that fits, try it, and let us all know where to buy one cheaper than Pentax
Then we only risk stuffing up one K10D.......YOURS
Seriously tho', is it worth stuffing up a state of the art DSLR for the sake of a few quid, or on someone else's say so.
We do know that on occasion it is acceptable to buy cheaper non Pentax accessories but when it come to connecting your pride and joy to the mains do you really want to risk some obscure manufacturer in Taiwan?

I got a Hama power supply for my D, but to be honest I think I've only ever used it once, when I was updating the firmware.
Is there really a need to get a PSU?

I must admit I've never seen one, perhaps if you were shooting tethered it might be and advantage but that's currently not possible with the K10D anyway.

I guess if you're doing a lot of fixed position studio work, it might make sense to run off the mains, but it does mean you've got an extra wire to trip over.

God gave us the brains to invent batteries, then Pentax gave us something wonderfull to put them in . (the batteries not the brains)
Confucious say; When it come to cheap PSU, use your brains and use your batteries
