@Davidwozhere; Why do you need to cover the viewfinder in LV? Unless I'm misunderstanding how LV works, then with the mirror up, surely no light is getting in through the viewfinder to affect the exposure?

I haven't done any detailed visual assessment yet, but I did notice that with the distortion setting activated, the K-5 takes noticeably longer to write the picture to the card, presumably because it is indeed processing the distortion information.

@sterretje: I recently got a HD DA20-40 for my K-5, and although not specifically referred to in the firmware release notes (latest version, 1.16), both CA and distortion correction are selectable and set table in both RAW and JPEG options. I have these options turned off normally for all lenses in any case (prefer to do it in post) but it's good to know the the option appears to be supported - on the K-5 at least.

I rotate two 32gb cards in my K-5, shooting RAW; one is Sandisk and the other is Transcend. The Sandisk gives me 926 exposures on a blank card, the Transcend gives me 919... go figure. With shooting video as well as stills, I reckon the extra room is necessary for the ma-hoosive AVI files that the K-5 generates. Walking holiday in Switzerland in a couple of weeks, so I reckon I'll need both cards.

Yeh, I have a full set too. (Not the DMD though... but then I haven't got the motor drive version of the KM either!) What I think is the most gorgeous thing about the K2 is the fact that it's not really part of the K family, it's a halfway house to the Ms. Look at the body designs: the KM, KX and K1000 share the Spotmatic F chassis - but the K2 shoulder height and general body design is different. Side by side, the KM, K2 and ME shows an evolution in design, with the shoulder height dropping and the design changing between models. Who says evolution doesn't exist?

There will have been an activation code displayed when you downloaded the programme, then when you ran first it, there was an option to enter the code to activate it. If you still have the code, then there is probably an option somewhere in the menu system to enter it.

Can you confirm whether you are using the trial v10, or the full programme v8?

In v8, the steps at top left are organize/customize/process. Once you have edited your picture, go to 'process' where it lists all the formats that you can save in, including DNG as Stephen notes above. Just tick the output you want, make sure the picture is highlighted in the picture selector and press the 'start processing' button - or just drag the image into the processing box.

I'm using Windows 7 also, and am having no issues. The programme is pretty processor-intensive, and there is an option in the edit/preferences that allows you to use your graphics card for processing.

The trial version is for the latest v.10. If you follow Steve's link at the foot of page 1 of this thread, it takes you to a page where you can download the full v8 free, which although not the latest version, is still very good indeed.

Once you're in, you have three stages at top left of the screen, browser, editor, output (or something like that, I'm not at my PC). The output page has all of the saving options, JPEG, TIFF etc etc.

But do it quick! Today is the last day. The program will download it's required plugins for your DA camera/lens combinations as it detects the photos.

Being a (former!) PDCU user, DxO Optics Pro 8 is very impressive, and I'm going to carry on using it. The lens softness and smart lighting tools are worth the price by themselves!

If I need to use any other tools, such as red eye reduction (on the rare occasion that I use on-camera flash) or cloning then I export as TIFF and do these in Faststone. I agree with Steve that the raw conversion is poor, but once you're in TIFF then it works well.
