Hi all, Just installed it on my K3 with no issues. Expected of course for the functionality of the new lenses, neither of which I can afford. They are always mysterious about other 'improved stability for general performance' fixes.

I note that the K5 and variants already dropped from the updates. Are Ricoh dropping support earlier or just prioritising their 'current models'?

Well I know one thing, I was going to buy a 150-450mm for my 5IIs (.. and quite possibly the 70-200mm as well) but if it isn't 100% functional just because Ricoh wont issue a firmware update then as far as I am concerned they have lost a £2000 sale.

Done. I always update any firmware even though I don't have the new lenses, or am I likely to have them, it's still good to keep the most up to date firmware in any device. IMO.
CHEERS Vic.

As my K3 is stable and I can't afford the new lenses, I don't see any need to upgrade the firmware.

I was thinking very strongly about moving from the K-5 to the K-S2 or the K-3, so that problem would be solved. In any event, there may well be a firmware upgrade for the K-5 series yet, so we'll see. It also depends on what is being updated and whether it's significant or not.

In the case of the AW converter it was significant in that K-7 onwards needed the upgrade to enable AF.
Best regards, John

i think at the moment there is a lot of negative energy floating about with all the delays with nothink from ricoh/pentax
tipical no comunication from them and i feel sorry for all those that have layed out deposits for the lenses are they going to get somthing extra for the delays

and as for the full frame which is suppose to be later this year it looks mor like 2018 may be more like it
and every one else will have moved on

I know lens support has to be added to cameras for things like CA and distortion corrections. As far as I know MTF information is on the lens itself isn't it? So what other things, functionalities, can you need to add for new lenses like this? Autofocus motor support is already there isn't it, for both SDM and screw drive. Or do these new DC motors work differently .... I'd have assumed they still use the SDM contacts ....

I believe the update has something to do with button functionality on the lenses.

If I remember right when they announced the new lenses they said that the old cameras would be able to use them and vice versa

IIRC, for the K-3 the previous version was 1.11 but that has now jumped to 1.20 - RP must have made a lot of attempts to update it before they got something stable that did what they wanted , so it would be nice to find out (although I doubt we actually will) just what all the changes actually resulted in (although they are being discussed on the US forum.

I got away with it, nearly potential damage to the camera(?) I put the update onto a 16gb card and put in the camera and set it going. Whilst I was waiting I read the instructions on the Ricoh website and it says a 32gb card is required. Panic!!! It finished and the camera works fine. A 32gb card is on its way from Amazon.

I think you read the update instructions incorrectly - they say "32MB" (32 MegaBytes) not "32GB" (32 Gigabytes!) - and as there are 1 million Megabytes (about, depends on how you define the numbers in each!) to the Gigabyte then I think your 16GB card was "just about big enough!"

In order to make a AF360FGZII flash work I needed to upgrade the firmware on a 6 month old K50 so maybe there is something in all the upgrades for that as well.
