Hello,

New to this forum and to dSLRs. Have had a K-7 for 1 week now, and I've had to reformat the 16 Gig SD card 3 times already because it ends up at "cannot display image". Is this usual, or should I take the card back to the shop and have a whine at them to get another? =)

Many thanks
Hi,
I had the same story with K20D and 16GB SDHC:

link

It ended up with selling the card and changing to one of the three types preferred by local Pentax. (Weird...)
No problems since then.

When there was dirt it showed the position correctly. The dust remover could not remove it, but the image helped me to find it with a magnifier and was able to remove it with air.

Luckily, it happened only once... (so far )

Would welcome any tips on recommended restaurants (budapest and Szentendre).

You can try the following:
http://www.nancsineni.hu/ - a "must try". Quite a distance from the city center but it worth. Reservation recommended.
http://www.kehli.hu/, http://regisipos.hu/?hun , http://www.ujsipos.hu/, http://becsiszelet.hu/?menu=load&tp=105 - closer to the city center. Reservation recommended.
http://www.trofeagrill.hu/ - Pay fix, eat as much as you can within 3-4 hours.
http://www.etterem.hu/1264, http://www.etterem.hu/509 - in the city center
http://www.remiz.hu/kisbuda/kisbuda_etterem.html,
http://fakanal.artia.hu/ - simpler, cheaper category, mostly local audience; good kitchen

In Szentendre most of them can be recommended. If you also like sweets, good coffee and ice don't miss Surányi Cukrászda (Rózsa str 2. or Kálvária str 49) or Szamos Marcipán (http://www.szamosmarcipan.hu/)
If you came in spring or summer I would recommend you Szentendre Open Air Museum ( http://www.skanzen.hu/index.php ): traditional rural life (full day programme!) and good opportunity to make great pics.

The public transport is excellent and good value. If I went again I'd spend a lot of time station hopping just see all parts of the city.

Mike
Public transport is not as good as some years ago. Ticket costs about 1 Euro and must be validated when entering the tube, bus or tram. (To suburbs you will need an extension ticket) Here you can find timetable and other useful info on public transport: http://www.bkv.hu/english/home/index.html

Well, it depends on your field of interest... This is not the best season for Budapest - springtime is better. It is snow (and some will be on this weekend, too) - but great opportunity to take some interesting photos. What I mostly like is the mist over the river in the early morning hours. The most usual places are the downtown and the castle district (great view to the city). If you are interested in panoramic pictures the hills of Buda are good places. I recommend also the human faces - mirror of the present economical situation. You can use tripod (in museums, galleries: it depends)

Food is good (be careful with some popular restaurants, always check the prices on the menu ! I can recommend some)

Try also Szentendre - a small town near Budapest, can be reached by suburban train in 40 minutes, 2.5 Euro) - a jewel box, famous of its atmosphere and artists (my home town :wink

Have a nice stay!

Hello Laszlo,

My 16 Gig SDHC Dane Elec card works fine,no problems, and it was very cheap from the 7 day shop. access lamp blinks once!

Sounds as if you've got a dodgy card there!
Ok, but two cards?? Then maybe the brand itself...

Anyway, it's good to hear that someone has already good experience with 16GB!

Thanks Roscoe!

Has anybody any good or bad experience with 16 GB cards? I bought an Extrememory Performance 16GB 133x SD and when inserting the card access led remains on for an extremely long time (8-10 sec or more). The same when taking pictures: it writes images extremely long, what's more writing images increases in time from picture to picture, and after 6-10 shots it never ends. Or ends with various error message: Image is not stored - Memory card error - blank screen.

My old slow 2GB Ridata is much faster (2x-3x)

Even if image is written sometimes it cannot be played back (camera can not display image)

I tested the card with other cameras (eg Canon) - it works fine. Also it works in card readers.

I complained at the store, they replaced it but the new one behaves exactly the same way.

I have 1-2 GB cards of different manufacturers (Ridata, Kingston, Transcend, noname), 8GB sandisk Ultra II, tried 4/8 GB TDK - all works.
Is it a problem with the brand or a size problem? Does anybody use 16GB or more? As far as I know K20D should work up to 32 GB...

Any clue?
