This is for Photoshop CS. I hope it helps. Current version is 2.4, the *istD compatibility was added in 2.1 . I have an istDS and this converter works fine for me. I have also tried the converter available free from www.pixmantec.com .

One other difference with the so-called 'digital only' lenses that hasn't been mentioned so far is the lens coatings. Digital lenses have, amongst others, an anti-ghosting coating to prevent the problems of internal reflections. This is not such an issue with film, but it is, or can be, a problem with digital bodies and their shiny glass sensor covers.

I just found page 101 in the manual which states 'S' means screw fit. Ignore my last post, I promise to do read more thoroughly or 'engage manual before typing rubbish'.

I have conducted cliff_occo's experiment on my own istDS setup and can see no difference between the 'FI with S lenses' setting (Test 1, setting 2 above ) being either on or off. All of my lenses are K mount (mix of M, A, FA) so I can't test the difference using a screw lens. If the 'S' in 'FI with S' means screw, i wonder why it isn't shown as 'M42'. I'm wondering if the 'S' stands for 'Soft' (as in the series of soft lenses), Focus Indicator when Soft lense are used kind off makes a bit more sense to me. In his experiment, Cliff suggests using the AE-L button to set shutter speed according to the manually selected aperture, which is quicker and simpler than using the 'preview and manually adjust shutter in metered manual mode' method.

Can anybody explain what this setting actually does ?

I have been looking at Pentax UK website wuite a bit in recent weeks learning the capabilities of various models. I was horified to see today that there are only 2 35mm SLR film cameras in the range now. Last week the MZ-6, MZ-M, and MZ-S were there, as well as the only 2 that are left, the *ist and the MZ-60.

Curiously, the French site has kept the MZ-M and *ist :

Does anyone know if there is a new range of 35mm film SLR's in the offering, or more likely, ramping down film and moving their attentions to digital production ?

The manual for my istDS states that redeye reduction does not work with the AF400FTZ and it doesn't list the AF280T but . . . I have just tested my istDS & AF400FTZ combo and redeye reduction does actually seem to work OK in that the initial short redeye reducing flash fires, then the frame is taken and the flash also fires. The image looks great too although I have no redeyed subjects available to test it on. I have discovered accidentally that the AF280T works with redeye reduction as well if I turn off the Finder A check switch.

I have just tried my AF400FTZ on my MZ-6, a combination which, according to the manual, also shouldn't be able to do redeye reduce . . . but it does.

Perhaps I'm missing something here and the redeye disfunction has more to do with flash to lens distance being too great rather than the cameras inability.

Does anybody else have either combination to confirm my results ? or,
If I'm totally wrong, could somebody please educate me.

Can I ask how you 'tricked' the AF360FGZ into TTL mode. I'd like to try it.

My own experience of Pentax flashguns is that my old faithful 20+ year old AF280T works a lot better with my *ist DS than the AF360FGZ which, in my opinion is either under-powered or my *ist DS isn't using it properly. I also have an AF400FTZ which works well with my *ist DS. The AF360FGZ/ist DS combo tends towards under exposure. + 1/2 or a full stop usually is needed to compensate.

OT: I have just acquired an MZ-6 and an MZ-7 and it'll be interesting to see the results from those in combination with the AF360FGZ. I'm sure my other 2 will work fine.
