My guess is, no, AF systems can't focus on infrared. If they did, they'd get awfully confused in daylight as there's got to be some infrared content in daylight. Icould be (read probably am) wrong.

I would try this myself . . . but I don't have any IR filters . . . yet.

Good question. As most (if not all) modern cameras have auto-focus, can they 'see' infrared? If they can, and one puts an IR filter between subject and lens, thus limiting the light that the AF system 'sees' to being in the IR range of the spectrum, does it focus correctly?

I have no idea, do you?

I have just bought an *ist to compliment my *ist DS. I haven't put a film through it yet but have had many 'dry' runs and it handles beautifully with all of the common controls within easy reach. It does have the 'crippled' KA mount however and as such will not allow the use of lenses any earlier than Pentax-A.
I bought it to replace my now defunct Super-A. As for the award, it won TIPA Best 35mm SLR Camera in Europe 2003-4.

I have also read that PaintShop Pro 9 handles DS RAW files but it doesn't work on mine.

I use Photoshop CS (not the CS2 variant) and the Camera RAW plugin works fine for me. I've used both 2.3 and 2.4 versions with no issues at all.

An update to the ist DS firmware is available from Pentax to enable the use of SD cards larger than 1Gb.

Hi,

The istDS must achieve focus lock before step 7 above will complete. Set the Auto/Manual focus switch to manual, then stel 7 works even if the lens is not focussed.

Does anybody know if the focusing screen of the MZ-7 is easily removeable to facilitate cleaning of the focus screeen/prism ?
