Yep, it's awesome. Light, well balanced on a istD with a grip and one set of batteries but best on a tripod and its built-in mount. Images are fabulous. I'll try and dig out some sample images to post. I have the non-DG version and paid less than £200 for it on special offer/end of line from Warehouse Express.

A used SMC Pentax-FA 80-320mm can be bought from an online auction site (you know the one I mean) for between £75 & £100.

My personal favourite in this range is the Sigma 70-300mm APO Macro Super. It's cheaper but nonetheless a credible performer.

I would probably resist buying AF IF (auto focus - internal focus) lenses if you plan to continue using them on a manual focus body. The reason is that the amount of movement required of the focus ring to travel from minimum focus to infinity is often very small. This can make it difficult to achieve and hold a specific focus point and only the slightest movement of the focus ring will render the shot out of focus.

It does make sense, generally, for you to start buying the AF versions of your favourite lenses if there is an option to do so.

Shows what I know then I can't actually check mine because I sold it very soon after buying the 16-45mm DA.

Minor correction to Matt's list:- Not all of "The SMC-DA have quick-shift focus rings". I don't think that the DA 18-55mm 'kit' lens has the quick-shift manual focus function.

Interesting info Matt. I too use the method George described. I'm not sure I can reprogramme myself to use a different workflow though so I'll probably continue using the same method

I find it handy to have CaptureOne LE delete the images from the card after importing.

DigitalRev ship from Hong Kong, shipping/import duty/VAT bumps the price up to £466.35. Not such a great deal and when/if it goes wrong you send it back to Hong Kong.

Still a good price ? Not really.

Don,

No offence intended and I hope none taken. I thought that maybe once again, the US may have decided to give the camera a different name to the rest of the world.

Regards,

Canon has noticed the d10
What's a D10 ? Is that the US name of the camera we all know as the K10D?

I can see your illustrations now but Daniel's explanation of 100% crop . . . has got me beat. Surely a percentage crop should mean either the amount of the full frame that has been cropped out, or the amount that is left. To me, 100% crop can only mean either 100% of the original image is left or 100% has been removed ? ? ? ? ? ?

Personally, I would find it very difficult to determine that I'd cropped (removed) 13.75% of an image, for example.
