Interesting feedback at local Camera dealer regarding K10 D

I have just had my most surreal experience with a shop assistant ever. I visited my local independent camera dealer enquiring about the deals they were going to be doing for K10. The guys in this shop are very experienced they have been there for years and have normally given sound advice (I bought my MZ-50 from them) but still I had the reply that was both alarming and surreal at the same time. I was told that “I was probably the tenth person enquire about the camera” and that they wouldn't be stocking it as, and this is as he put it "he would very surprised if Pentax were still with us next year. They are struggling badly and this camera (the K10) will make or break them “. He did state that the products are of a high standard but they will not be stocking them because of these uncertainties.
I just found it incredulous that although they had had multiple enquiries the shop was not going to stock it due to an assumption about a company which I can only assume has come about due brand bias, who says the independents offer great advice?

So they're business analysts as well as photography experts?

Sounds more like brand prejudice to me

How odd-I suppose their allotment can be shipped to the US.

Hi,

There has been many tears shed, quite rightly, for a lot of the independant shops gone out of business over the last three years.

However, I cannot image how idiots like this have managed to stay trading. It is amazing how bad some retailers are and some have no one but themselves to blame for going bust. I imagine that when they do go bust they will blame others for their demise...

..can you name and shame these imbiciles?

cheers Steve.

I see Vistek in T.O. is advertising some serious rebates on Canon gear and taking pre-orders for d10's....connect the dots....Canon has noticed the d10 and is reacting in a fearful, and hence agressive mannor!
there may never be a better time to go shopping!
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

IMHO there's never a good time to go shopping, but always a good time to order camera gear on the Internet.....

Best regards, John

What's a D10 ? Is that the US name of the camera we all know as the K10D?

The shop was cameraland in Cardiff. The shops seems the be run by 3 guys who have been there for at least 10 years to my knowledge. He told me that Pentax's marketing had a lot to be desired. It was truly a weird experience. Funny thing is very close to this shop is the Camera Centre, a family run affair thats been here for ages. They can be more pricey but with a bit of haggling they do discount. They will be supllying the K10 but are waiting to see what other shops do before confirming a price policy.

Don,

No offence intended and I hope none taken. I thought that maybe once again, the US may have decided to give the camera a different name to the rest of the world.

Manesty, a person has to TRY (often rally hard) to offend me. None taken.
