Welcome back, good to see you still have that awful old FA 135mm kicking around.

Thanks for replying. All of the pins on the grip are sprung loaded, all are at the same height, and all move up and down freely. Contact pads and pins and internal battery contacts have been cleaned as well as the contacts on the battery.

Thanks for your reply. I had cleaned the gold plated grip/body connector contacts, but I hadn't cleaned the internal battery contacts . . . until now. Having cleaned all the contacts I switched on, the battery showed fully charged, which it was. I turned on LV and after 2 or 3 minutes, the top one of the three charge indicators extinguished, but . . . as I was just about to turn off LV, the extinguished battery charge state bar lit up again.

I don't particularly need to use LV very much, it just seemed the best option to 'stress' the battery a bit. The battery I'm using is a Pentax branded 7.2v 1860 mAh (14Wh). I have several others but the one I am most interested in is one I rebuilt with new 2800mAh cells, but that behaves just the same.

I've placed a WTB ad in the classifieds for a genuine Pentax grip but some of you may have had the same problem I have, and fixed it.

The basic problem is that batteries don't last very long when I use the camera with one battery in the grip. The battery indicator very soon shows that the battery is partially depleted.

Could it be the grip at fault, or possibly the camera circuitry?

If you have experienced this problem and you've been able to fix it, I'd love to know. I will take my grip apart and see what's going on, but not until I have another grip.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Looking for a genuine Pentax D-BG5 battery grip to replace my faulty after-market DSTE grip.

I've found that my DSTE grip is reporting incorrect battery data to my K-3II body. With a battery in the grip, I only get a few minutes of Live View before the battery appears to be partially depleted. I ran a battery down to one bar in the grip, then transferred it to the body where it again appeared to be fully charged, hence my conclusion that my DSTE grip is faulty.

Well, I can confirm that the dual flash/cable/stacked hot-shoe adapter works, but I've given up trying to use the Canon 30D with a Pentax lens, it's way too fiddly stopping up, focus, stop down, take the shot, mainly because the lens is not in the same rotational place as it would be on a Pentax body.

Tomorrow I'll try the K20 D together with tubes + nifty 50, then reversing ring and 28mm.

Thanks Robert and Nigel. I asked the same question on the Facebook group Pentaxians and somebody replied saying they had done it and it works, but only in manual of course. the AF240FT flash has only 2 manual settings, H & L, but I have a flash meter so I should be able to set the camera up to suit. If that doesn't work I have a couple of AF400FTZ flashes I could use that have more manual settings.

I'm setting up a hotch-potch of bits I have laying around doing nothing to show potential macro shooters on a couple of Facebook macro groups I'm on that you don't need the latest top of the line gear or oodles of megapixels to take decent macro shots. I have an old Canon 30D (10Mp I think) + adapter for Pentax lenses, Pentax 50mm and 100mm macro lenses, the Sigma 180mm macro lens, extension tubes, bellows, macro focusing rail, Raynox dioptre plus all the flash stuff I've mentioned. It may be a bit cumbersome to use in the wild but it should make a decent studio macro set up with a light tent etc.

I won't be able to post any images here because of the Canon component but hopefully, a link to my Flickr account will be acceptable.

Time will tell if it all works out. Thanks for your help.

I'm trying to conjure up a twin flash system for Macro using the parts I already have.

I have 2 x AF240FT flashes, 2 x Hot Shoe Adapter F, and 2 x 5PSync Cord F. I also have a custom made flexible bracket to hold everything.

I was hoping to use my radio triggers but the receivers can't be mounted to my flash bracket.

Having set the scene, my question is:-
Can I stack 2 x Hot Shoe Adapter F's, one on top of the other and both on top of a modern Pentax DSLR (I have K20D, K-5, K-5 II, and K3 II) and take each of their attached cords to the flashguns.
