Nigel your very knowledgeable ( I admit my limits) and clearly comprehend the issues both generically and specifically on this photo. I prefer the colour version as the mono is more ` art` to me but heck what do I know .. just enjoying learning more on the way - no sure but I saw your photos there and felt they were nearer the ` real ` end of the spectrum of enhancing. ps One day I will post more photos , only put 2 up for the first time on another topic - to get feedback on IQ. The lead member JVS I believe highlighted my new K5ii was, unbeknown to me, only installed with 1.0 firmware - now I upgraded with a lot of help from Pentax forum members.

Nigel, let me clarify my comments to help you. I accept & respect there are some people who really like to `pixel peep` or perhaps micro assess photographs. However, its clear that process divides opinion amongst all photographers using digital but is probably a core element of work flow for those with a technical bias. There are lots of photo shop systems that aid us offering from light touch (minimal) to graphic engineering ( super heated) . So it remains a platform beyond the photo although where you stop depends on time & taste. I offered my view, that is it; sorry if it does not accord with yours. The photograph taken by Mal I like, but has been subject to a specialist module he listed. Beyond, that I am not sure why you should pick me up either its my view being a novice with DSLR may be reflects a different perspective too.

Sorry Mal, no offence but here is a non positive comment. There is too much photo graphics style used yet respect there are those that love spending time micro pixelising the world of photography because these tools are now being bought. I like the shot itself but could be less ` flash` toned.

I am new to both DSLR and so photo edit has been the next area to sample. Been trying out the ZONER studio 16 package this month on free trail after seeing a post on this site. It covers all the related work steps one needs from management of RAW to sharing. It has bag of tools to play with from what I can see lots of options but most too advanced for me yet to make proper use of, guess its step by step. Its about £ 60 and the industry & user reviews come out very high. Not used the Adobe photoshop/lightroom/elements packages but which works best as most things its a subjective matter. Photoshop seems potentially a rip off on license and monthly charges so will rule that out. Anyone else using Zoner feel its best system to buy although lesser profile ? Might test PSE 12/13 if you get free trail too. Cheers, Patrick

Guys, I am sure the update from firmware 1.00 to 1.07 might improve my photos. So that will be sorted this week once done I will review. I know tests can be helpful to see if calibration ( you mean focusing right) needs correction too. Looks like I am going to be busy. BTW at what stage do you consider sending back to the retailer to sort out ? Cheers, P

Hi John, wow it seems I got only version 1.00 on it. Why the fcuk do they sell without updates installed ? It seems the latest is 1.07 so could explain a lot of my ` issues` perhaps but significant .So looks like a tech process to do it but any implications jumping from version 1.0 to 1.07 , without going through the others each time, any ideas ? Thanks for the information on your settings and advices. BTW so please how do I check the firmware to get up dates ? Its only a few months since it was bought from Wex ? That shot in fact was hand held although others I took were from my tripod.
Finally, how do you check EXIF from the photos ? Oooh so much stuff I am ignorant about still. Cheers, Patrick
